Re: Finally scored one
First, congratulations on the deer. Deer are deer whether they're in the deep woods or the city, etc. Glad you got her. To a hunter that is true; however, some of my non hunting Dr. Doolittle neighbors would beg to differ, as they consider these to be their pets. These are "their deer". So...

Re: Un-string a Recurve for Off Season
Always take mine off. Took the string off Monday afternoon after I returned from hunting camp. Will put it back on next September before the season starts up again.
I don't have air brakes or anything else that might complicate the process. So easy to do, so I do it.

Re: what illuminated scope to upgrade to?
I have the Hawke XB30 that I got from Wyvern 3 years ago at a great price. I love this scope. Even if I don't illuminate the crosshairs red or green when I shoot at a deer, the crosshairs are easy to see and center on the target. So far I have shot 4 deer in 3 years. Only once have I remembered to t...

Re: 2 in NY with Matrix
hunter with MS The thought that limiting the poundage to limit the flight distance may be the reason. The other possibility is that the lobbyists for the compound bow companies such as Matthews,Ten Point, Barnett, etc. paid off the politicians in NY that wrote up the crossbow regulations, so as to l...

Re: FOC Broadheads
Great information. All of which reinforces that shot placement is the key. Part of getting good shot placement is making sure your broad head flies true. I use slick tricks because you can use them multiple times on deer, or carbon express quad pro which cost only $15 for a 3 pack. There is no need ...

Re: Big Missouri 9 pt. with rifle
Thanks again bellerivercrossbowhunter for helping out with the pictures.
That's a beautiful deer. I had to do a double take as it looked as if the deer was floating by itself next to a red flag as if in a magic show, but then I made out the tractor shovel.

Re: 2 in NY with Matrix
No problem. Really a shame in NY for hunters and especially Excalibur's business. No way that anyone in this state can use a Micro to hunt with. The regs should be based on FPS, not draw weight if the intent of those making these rules is to limit the power that hunters have available with Xbows. In...

Re: Ladder stands
To each his own. I actually prefer the metal seat. The sling seats shift too much and are difficult to get comfortable in.
Of course you put at least two, thick closed cell foam hunting seat cushions down on top of the solid seat and it's all good.

Re: Ladder stands
They have a nice selection at Dicks Sporting Goods or Field and Stream. They deeply discount them from time to time. Since age has made me less monkey like in my climbing ability, I only use ladder stands now - I sold 6 hanging stands last year via Craigslist. You will want the following - A good de...

Re: 2 in NY with Matrix
Yes, that would be the 310 Too bad about the draw weight thing, there are many 380s and 405s that I see hanging up, collecting dust with the string deeply embedded in the bumpers, every time I go into Dicks Sporting Goods or Field and Stream. I doubt that anyone will buy these until the regs change. ...

Re: 2 in NY with Matrix
Hunter with MS - Thanks for your concern. I may be a rabble rouser/mischief maker but I am not a law breaker. I knew that I might eventually get the reaction that I did in fact get. I will email you a picture of my crossbow and you can read the label on the side providing the model # which will indi...

Great story. Although it was a 5 point, I'm sure this was a giant and a trophy for your friend. We should all be so happy and proud of any deer we are lucky enough to get.
Thanks for the story and helping us appreciate what a gift being able to hunt is. We should never take it for granted.
