12 gauge blades with a 1.5 oz cut work great. You can't shoot more than a 3 blade.Peacemaker wrote:What's the best broadhead to use for ducks?

Re: Duck Hunt with Dad
Congratulations on the ducks. We don't get to many Ring-Necked Ducks back home in Arkansas. I can recall them being quite a bit harder to hit than a mallard. You know you are having fun duck hunting when you have to pause to pick up all of the hulls.

Re: My first duck hunt
My buddy wants to go to Arkansas next year. He asked me to go with him so I think I might. He is still in search of a quality guide service. Do you happen to know of any? I would hate to give bad advice. I know there are lots of outfitters. My only recommendation would be to stick to East Central A...

Re: My first duck hunt
It is an addictive sport. Once you're hooked you'll live for it. I took my kids back to my old stomping grounds in Arkansas the week of Thanksgiving for their first "real" duck hunting. Shooting geese here on the Shenandoah doesn't compare to duck hunting in the timber of Arkansas. They ha...

Re: Scales - Old School or New School
My vote is for 'New school' but you can beat that price. Be prepared to carve a wooden block about 2.5" long w/ a 'V' in it to keep your arrows from rolling off the weigh platform [you tare it out]....... x 2 I picked up a digital scale off of eBay for about $15 a few years ago. I got a Hornad...

There's nothing like successful hunting with family. I'll be in Arkansas on Saturday to enjoy the first week of duck season with family. I can't wait.

Re: My Shadow Murphy!
Some days the only luck we have is bad luck. Hope the bow survived fine. Sometimes those limbs we cuss one day can save us on another. There is a small tree to the left behind one of my 12-ft double ladder stands that still has big leaves on it. It is about 10 feet behind my stand so it is out of my...

Their basic plaques are very reasonable. I spent a few more bucks and got these (pun not intended).Woodspike wrote:Wow... Great prices, and selection! Thanks for the link, Duck!

Until this past season I made all of my own dating back more than 25 years. I even fashioned a panel for a european style mount with the base in the shape of an old arrowhead complete with a routed serrated edge. Then I found http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/. What I would spend a half day working o...

Re: What Type Of Rain Gear Do You Carry With You?
During bow season, none. If I get wet enough to want to go home, I don't need to be out there bow hunting anyway. Typically a hunting coat that is rated as water repellent is all I need. Rain cleanses the soul.

Congrats on finding your buck. My late lab-mix was an expert at it. He recovered a handful I would likely have never found.

Re: saw a brute this evening
Didn't see a single deer in the 2 hours I spent in my ladder stand. Maybe he was watching me the whole time and decided to taunt me as I left.  I get that too frequently. I see nothing while in the stand, then jump a handful of deer in the landowners front yards as I walk to my vehicle. ...

Re: Where are the does?
Now that you mention it, the last couple weeks I've seen more bucks than does as well in Northern Virginia. Today my daughter passed on two smaller bucks, then shot the doe. That's not going to help the ratio any. They can't chase does if we keep shooting all of them.

Re: Who' s had a close call
While goose hunting on the river in a friends old canoe we rolled it over in 8ft of water with temps around 20F. We were both paying more attention to the geese than the balance of the boat and a solid load of 3.5" magnum 12-guage tipped the scales. I had a couple of instant concerns. First, do...
