Re: Putting out a Hunting Challenge

Good idea. My arrows are adorned with orange (leukemia) and white (lung). I've lost family members to both.

Re: Ordered a new Rifle, What Scopes?

The Leupold Vari-X I in 3-9x40 is an excellent scope. They normally run $229-$249US. I have one on top of my Remington 700 .30-06 and have no complaints. I have 8 or 9 scopes in the cabinet and it is certainly the best. I have a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 that is also similarly clear that normally costs ...

Re: Expandables for Excal?

I won't buy any more Rage 3-blade heads because I didn't find them durable enough to re-use. Considering their cost, I would at least like to get the occasional chance to let one fly a second time. I found Spitfires to be very durable. I won't fault the Rage 3-balde for its effectiveness though. I h...

Re: I'll show you mine if....

Late last October my eleven year old black lab mix passed. I wasted no time getting back on the horse. Within a couple weeks I picked up Drake, a chocolate lab. He makes great company for my Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix, Zeus. Here is Drake at about 12 weeks. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k26...

Re: Anyone else fired up for deer yet?

Certainly. There are three new compound bows in the house over the past month. One for my daughter, son and myself. With six bows in the house I need more places to hang them. Today I rigged up a camera mount for my bow and tossed some Lumenoks just to see how it works. I'm tossing a couple dozen ar...

Re: Practice close shots

I don't think I compensated for the angle of the arrow going down. Its easy to overlook the close shots, but they are actually tougher than some of the farther ones. Thats just one reason I try to keep my shots around 20 yards. Very close shots at steep angles have a much smaller margin for error. ...

Re: Will the C2 crank fit an older Excalibur?

Thanks for the offer. I just picked up one on the trading post.

I read the details on the new C2 crank. I guess it fits the thumbhole stock or 2008 and newer traditional stocks. The older crankaroo fits the prior models like mine.

Will the C2 crank fit an older Excalibur?

I have a 2006 Exomax. I was starting to look for a crankaroo for it an notice that they have a newer model crank available. Will the newer model fit my 2006 Exomax or do I need to locate one of the older model cranks?

Re: Range Finder

Leupold RX-II. They keep changing the names of the lines every couple years. It was the cheapest model with their TBR (True Ballistic Range) feature. I needed another for my kids so I picked up a newer RX-750 as well. I've been real happy with this unit. 6x magnification and I can probably go a coup...

Re: Hunting Shooting Position

I sight in from a bench. After that, every shot I take is free handed. Since most of my shots are 30 yards or less I seldom have a need for a rest. I just feel more comfortable that way since I do the same with my vertical bow and rifle.

Keep'em close and a rest isn't necessary.

Re: Frontal Shot?

I don't prefer a frontal shot, but I have taken two with my Exomax with perfect results. In both cases, my target was the spine not the vitals. In both cases I was at ground level with the deer and both were 20 yards away. I shot a doe in the white patch under the chin as she was looking right at me...

Re: Just for curiosity, what is the maximum range of an Exom

Don't know how far an arrow can fly, but I do know one can go 125 yards after a pass through, verified by laser. I can confirm this is possible. Mine wasn't 125 yards. It as more like 100 yards. And that's 100 yards beyond the pass through. In my case I was shooting slightly down hill, so that aide...
