Re: Crossbows in WV? Call your legislators.
I heard back from my Delegate today. It appears that the Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee is not really interested in bills relating to crossbow use. It will take quite a few voices to make crossbows a reality in WV. WV will be no different than the battle in many other states except that...

Re: Strong Deer (Deer that get away after a solid hit)
.OK, after a second look, the exit hole looked low, didn't it? The more I watch Travis's shot, the more I'm amazed that deer wasn't dead quicker. If you compare his entrance hole with the exit, I can't see how he missed the heart. The entrance was 5-6" up from the bottom of the chest and close...

Re: What broadhead do you use ?
Is it necessary to add brass inserts to shoot a 100 grain spitfire? Not necessary at all. Quite a few folks shoot them I've take a few deer with them as well. They are very accurate and durable broadhead. Many folks swear by them. I had one open prematurely out of my ExoMax that caused a poor hit. ...

Strong Deer (Deer that get away after a solid hit)
I was watching one of the sportsman channels on the TV the other day and caught an episode of 'The Bone Collector' where Michael Wadell and crew were hunting in Mexico. If you saw the episode, you'll know what I'm about to mention. Travis (T-Bone) shot a really nice 11 point and just drilled him. Th...

Re: Broadhead data
Let's face it, most lost deer and long tracking jobs are because of human error somewhere along the line. I can agree with you there. I shoot mechanicals for the large cut and accuracy at extended distance. By extended I'm referring to the 30-40 yard range. If you can get your fixed heads to hit de...

Crossbows in WV? Call your legislators.
West Virginia is odd in a way with regard to their Natural Resources. Some states put the power of regulating and setting seasons and hunting methods in the hands of biologists and hunters. West Virginia manages a good portion of it at the State Legislature level (political level) in state code. Rig...

Re: apinions on rage crimson talon crocs an muzzys
The only one of these I have tried is the Rage 3-blade. The Good: I have killed every deer I've shot with at with them out of my ExoMax. Even a couple that had less than perfect shot placement were down within 75 yards. They are very deadly and will leave an entry and exit hole as advertised. The Ba...

Re: HSS Vest
I bought a HSS Pro series vest before this season. I wear it on the outside of my hunting clothes. I can understand the concern of falling and being stuck facing away from the tree. If you fall from your stand and find yourself dangling well below the platform with your back to the tree then you've ...

Re: exomax
I have a VariZone, but if I had it to do all over again I would get the LumiZone or one of the upcoming Excalibur offerings. The VariZone has performed great, but I would like a little more light gathering ability. Something with a 40mm or higher objective lens would be more to my liking. Where I hu...

Re: how did you get started in archery
I grew up hunting, but never with archery. I had a few cheap fiberglass bows growing up but never considered hunting with one. I picked up a cheap Bear Kodiak compound bow ($99) at Kmart in 1993 and only got one chance to hunt with it that year due to military duties. I really got into bow hunting i...

Re: How do you cock your bow?
I have an Exomax (225#) and always use the rope cocker. If I don't have it, I don't hunt. Once I had one of my limb tips make contact with a tree when I shot causing me to miss. My bow was not hurt. The three deer below my stand never left. With all of the adrenaline pumping through me I thought I w...

Re: arrow broadhead combos
I've used the stock FireBolts with success with 100 grain Spitfires, Rages and Scorpion XPs. They should work great with just about any mechanical head. I haven't had any luck getting them to shoot right with 100 grain fixed heads. The FOC just ain't right at with that combination.

Congrats on the nice doe and good shooting. Hey, a hatchback is a fine deer hauler. I loaded quite a few deer in the back of my old Pontiac coupe.

Re: the secret to success, do I NEED a new bow?
Well put. I bagged five with archery gear this season. The farthest was 23 yards away. Three were inside of 13 yards. A newer faster bow isn't going to make me any more successful at those ranges.
