Nice. Quite a few nice racks actually. Tracer: I wish I still had some pics. I lost a few years worth of digital pics with a PC crash. My wife was coming home from a church function about noon on the Sunday before Thanksgiving in 2004. She and the car in front of her had to slow for two doe high ste...

Killing time: Mounting old horns

I've been putting it off for a while and decided Labor Day was as good a time as any to make some boards and mount some of the worthy horns from the last three seasons. Left = 7pt, muzzleloader kill (2005) Right = 8pt, killed by my wife with my car (2004) Top = 6pt, rifle kill (2006) Center = 4pt, m...

I think Wabi may be on the right track. I've bought a couple packs of the GT arrows from Excalibur and have has at least 1 in each pack that wasn't perfectly straight. Now I realize that many arrows are not perfectly straight. But a simple test is to take off the point and lay them onto a table/coun...

I actually took my cheapo Kmart 3-D target out once during archery season in Maryland (on a military base under controlled conditions) and set it up about 20 yards in front of my stand. A couple doe were passing through my hunting area about 75 yards away. I grunted at them and made them look my dir...

I will admit that I've set my sights on a bagging a trophy some day. One that I won't think twice about the $$$ required for a shoulder mount for my wall. I've got numerous 6,7 & 8 points that many including myself consider a trophy. But I have yet to get what I am content with as a true wall ha...

458 + 27 = 485. Many nice bucks along the way but still searching for that elusive wallhanger.

Broadhead review: Eastman Outfitters Silver Strike

Howdy all. I've been fairly quiet since spring but time is approaching to polish up the skills and share some knowledge with the group that has ample to spare. Last season was my first with a crossbow and I was fortunate to have access to private land in Loudoun Co. Virginia. It is a deer hunters dr...

My Exomax with GT carbons took 6 deer last season and one oak tree that I still swear stepped in front of the largest buck I've seen. :) All of the arrows (that were found) were in great shape and lived to hunt again. Even the oak tree kill went on to take a spike later that week. The broadhead wasn...

The second deer I killed with a vertical bow was with the aid of a 3-D target. I set it up about 20 steps in front of my stand. I was up about 20 feet and could just see the feet of a couple deer crossing through the woods about 100 yards away. It was fairly quiet in the woods so I grunted a couple ...

I work as an engineer for General Dynamics. I worked as a Satellite Controller (flew satellites) for the Army for ten years. For the past ten I've been spending less and less time flying satellites and climbing 80-foot tall antennas and more on ground based communications. Its 40-hours a week with n...

With CWD in the area, both WV and Virginia added laws controlling (VA) or forbidding (WV) baiting.

Nice photo.

I wonder if you could take two in one shot? That's my dream. It would just take perfect conditions that I have yet to find. The situation pictured might make it possible.

Sizing up a buck using his rubs?

With all of the big horns I see others taking, I can't help but wonder what type of sign those monsters (Amish Buck) must be leaving in the woods. I've hunted near rubs that I thought must have been made by a trophy only to find it was a trophy 3-point with an itch. I've always thought that bigger b...

About 5 years ago I pre-selected a tree 20 yards off of a trail only to find out on a wet opening morning that it had a slight lean. The only other tree available was literally ON the trail. I climbed up it about 25 feet. In my typical fashion after four hours of sitting I arrowed the first thing I ...
