Has anyone ever had a string break when they were cocking or firing their crossbow ? Regarding the standard Excalibur strings : how many shots can you get out of one before it should be replaced ? What are the signs that indicate the string should be replaced ? I shoot the 380.

Cabela's is advertising a Cabela's Equalizer Crossbow Powered by Excalibur. It claims 250 lb. draw wt. and 370 fps. Is this just a wimpy 380 Matrix ? Listed price is $899.99 with 4 arrows, fisld points, Tact-zone scope, rope cocking aid and the bolt on quiver.

The serving on my string and the wrap around the loop ends are beginning to fray. I have lost count how many times I have twisted the string to shorten it and get it off the rubber bumpers - At least 6 twists just this winter.
