Re: First deer with crossbow

Congratulations! I've said it before on this forum. Every deer is a trophy! You got out there, you picked a spot, you kept cool and made the shot and now you will be eating venison. It's the same wonderful experience for all of us. Way to go!

Re: What are you carrying in your pack this yr?

I haven't carried a pack in years. My camo pants have 6 pockets and my shirt has 2. I usually bring a knife, gloves, face mask, range finder, binoculars, rope cocker and (in the morning) a tight sealing coffee mug. All of my hunting is done on my farm from already placed stands. I don't need to take...

Re: Whoa! Slow down!

You're having a great season. Success is satisfying in one way and just makes you anxious for more success in an another. It's only early October so you have plenty of time to make this season even better!

I don't like sushi (it would probably be ok if you fried it) but I did enjoy your story. Congratulations!

Re: The best hunting hrs.

During firearm season I usually go out at mid day if I haven't killed a deer in the morning. Deer seem to be moving all day then and I've killed several deer at mid day with a rifle. I have never tried mid day hunting with a crossbow.

Re: What do you think Excalibur will do for 2022?

I have never shot a micro-mag 340 but I'm sure it is an excellent crossbow. All Excaliburs seem to be Accurate and reliable hunting machines. My question would be "why would you want 3 of the same model crossbow?". I understand the need to have more than one crossbow (I have two) and how w...

Re: Axiom 305

My first crossbow was an Axiom SMF. I killed at least one deer with it every year that I used it. It puts arrows through deer with pinpoint accuracy. I didn't need to replace it but I just couldn't pass up the deal that was available on my SE 350. I now have one aluminum rail Excal and one synthetic...

Re: They know when season starts.

Great pictures and great story. Three bucks is a generous limit, that gives you a lot of flexibility. I hate it when a deer I can't (or don't want to) shoot comes and hangs around when it's time to get down. I usually just wait until it gets pitch black dark and sneak off quietly. Good luck with tha...

Re: 6 more days

I don't know where you are headed to in Missouri but I'm glad you are coming next week and not this week. Southern MO is supposed to have highs in the 90s early this week and northern MO (where I hunt) will be in the mid to upper 80s. Next week looks cooler so you should be fine. I'm actually going ...

Re: First crossbow turkey

My initial post may have implied that this is my first turkey. It's my first crossbow turkey but far from my first overall. I killed my first turkey in the mid 1970s and have killed at least 35 - 40 birds overall. Like Gerald Strine mentioned in his post, I skin turkeys and cut them up somewhat like...

First crossbow turkey

Wednesday morning I drove up to the farm to mow and (hopefully) hunt. After mowing in a rush I got out to one of my stands about 5:00 PM. The stand I was in is a tripod stand in the southeast corner of a field of standing corn. In late August I mowed a path between the crop field and the woods ( I h...
