Re: Shoulder surgery

I was approved for shoulder replacement over 10 years ago, but I haven't done it. Hip and knee replacement usually go pretty well, but the shoulder is a more complicated joint and success is a little dicier (a surgeon tried hard to convince me to do it, but I resisted). Both of my shoulders are bad,...

Re: Squirrel hunting

 Me two I've done a lot of squirrel hunting with a 22. I have mostly used solid point long rifles because I thought hollow points would tear meat up. Maybe I was wrong, but the solid points do the job. I usually shoot a Remington pump and I've used shorts and longs as well as LRs, all of w...

Re: View from my opening day stand...

Good luck, I an't stand being the woods on warm days anymore. The older I get the cooler I like it. I will not hunt on days when the temps are expected to exceed 50F. :eusa-naughty: I hate hunting in hot weather too, but I would just about never hunt if I only hunted on days that it doesn't get abo...

Re: What a good coyote!

Best thing I've read all day. People used to hunt coyotes with dogs a lot years ago. Now, I don't know of anybody who does. I have only been asked once for permission to run coyote dogs on my farm, and that was a long time ago. Coyotes were scarcer then. I not only see and hear them regularly at my ...

Re: New season goals what's yours?

My goal is simple...get over this Covid stuff I've been fighting since the 3rd of July! Good luck with it. Drown it. Stay hydrated (not alcohol). I finally got it June 28. I was back to work after the holiday and I'm still dealing with the dry cough. Slowly but surely this too shall pass. Fortunate...

Re: New season goals what's yours?

First of all, I love catching hybrids too. They hit and fight so hard! They're good to eat but harder to clean than crappie or walleye. The thick layer of red fat just under the skin on them tastes terrible and is a little difficult to remove. They're skin is tough and dulls your knife faster than m...

Re: Quiet

Hot and dry here too. We had soybeans planted in our crop fields last week. They went into a dry field and haven't had a drop of rain since. Maybe it will rain this weekend.

Regarding the heat, I saw a dog chasing a cat the other day and they were both walking!

Re: Happy Father’s Day

My dad died on the 4th of July in 2004 at the age of 84 of emphysema (he had been a heavy smoker before quitting). He only had an 8th grade education but became the general chairman of a railroad union. In WWII he came ashore in Normandy shortly after D-Day and served as an artilleryman until the wa...

Road killed deer

I'm seeing a lot more road killed deer this year than I normally do at this season. When I drive up to my farm, there seems to be numbers of dead deer by the road comparable to the fall. Have any of you noticed any anything different in your area?

Re: OY: Pn This Date 1944

I was off grid in Canada fishing on June 6 so I had no access to the internet. A couple of years ago I said the same thing. The contribution of the US was enormous in the Normandy invasion but our allies (especially Canada and Great Britain) did everything the US did and we need to recognize their e...
