About 5 years ago I pre-selected a tree 20 yards off of a trail only to find out on a wet opening morning that it had a slight lean. The only other tree available was literally ON the trail. I climbed up it about 25 feet. In my typical fashion after four hours of sitting I arrowed the first thing I ...

I saw this one at least a year ago. Has to be a fake. That deers' nose is half as big as the guys head in the photo. I could picture a deer that heavy...but the proportions of that deer are very odd.

I've had a CVA Optima Pro .50 for a few years now. It handles 150gr of Triple-7 great and shoots very accurate at the same time. I can keep it in a 3" circle at 100 yards even with the heavy load. It hits hard. I also have a very old side-hammer CVA Mountaineer. It is cheap (<$100) and basic, b...

After shooting a 180lb 6-pt in Virginia right at dusk on Saturday I drug it for about 10 feet before deciding to head to the truck to get my cart. I can't describe the feeling I had (or the look on my face) when I dropped the tailgate on my truck and realized that my wife had taken my deer dolley ou...

Opening day rifle season bucks, one in VA, one in WV

I took my daughter out Saturday morn in Virginia and saw nothing. She got plenty cold. Saturday afternoon it was only me going. The first deer I saw all day was this nice 6pt trolling down the ridge above and behind my stand about 10 minutes after sunset. He was about 50 yards away in some thick stu...

10 & 13yr olds both score with blackpowder

My 10yr old son scored his first two deer with my Exomax back in October. Yesterday he scored again with his new muzzleloader. Fifteen minutes before sunrise a little doe came running over the hill in response to a doe bleat call. It stopped about 10 steps away on the uphill side of our stand right ...

Anyone try the Rage 3-blade slipcam expandables?

Has anyone on here tried the Rage 3-blade slipcam expandable broadheads?

I'm interested any any experiences you've had with them.

My son and I have taken six deer with the Exomax and Spitfire 100 yeads this season. In five of the six deer the broadhead performed flawlessly. Entrance holes were about 3/4" in size. Exit wounds were enormous as expected from a 1.5" head. Four of the deer went <30 yards. One went about 8...

Thats a nice smokepole Griz. I hunted with ML far longer than with archery just not as successfully. I guess the real long bow season has a lot to do with that. A couple years back I finally put the CVA Mountaineer out to pasture. In it I shot 100gr of FFg with a patched round ball. I could get 3&qu...

No prob Griz. I can take the heat. Ch312: I hate to burst your bubble, but if it makes you happy I'll leave that tag unfilled in your honor because you're such a stand up guy. Now I can only shoot four more deer this season (1 buck) counting my bonus tags. One of my kids will be with me and will be ...

Thanks for the kind words Grizz. You summed it up well. There is no doubt my dog would have caught this deer if I let him after it. What would happen at that point is anyones guess. He is pretty agressive, but that buck had a 3:1 size advantage. Also, since we have no dog use in this area of VA I wa...

I found it. I waited until the weather broke this morning and went out with the dog. At first the wind was calm so with all of the rain we would have to stumble right up on it. I made about a 200 yard circle of the area I expected the deer to be in but my dog never picked up anything. I returned to ...

I've been very happy with the Spitfires. They fly exactly like field points. I put the practice blades in and use them instead of field points for all my target shooting. I just wish they weren't quite as expensive. I've had no problems with premature opening in my Exomax. The entrance hole in the d...

Time to wait after a poor shot placement (gut)?

I arrowed a nice buck this morning with about a 18" spread. I didn't see many points so it may have been just a big 6 point. The deer ran off downhill with its tail between its legs. It acted hit. I watched it run for at least 75 yards and never heard it fall. I waited about 45 minutes before c...
