Re: O/T Shotgun Turkey Hunters

Use what you want . But if using beads remember to get that cheek down on the stock . Many a turkeys life has been spared by a angry swarm of 5`s sailed over the head . Kinda thinking about starting with #5 shot from reading this & that, anyone have suggestions for brand, size, etc. :eu...

Re: O/T Shotgun Turkey Hunters

One thing I would add to patterning your gun is use a large piece of paper so you see the entire pattern. Then draw a 10 and 20 inch circle around the main part of the pattern to see what you are getting. Also if you are using cheaper shells to site in make sure you shoot a round of your turkey ammo...

Re: O/T Shotgun Turkey Hunters

If you want to take the guess work out get a good reflex sight. I have Burris fastfire 3 works best for me. No guessing put the dot on wattles pull trigger. I have used a pro Damond and open sights. Problem is even though they are a dumb bird as some have said they will mess u up. They come in somet...

Re: How High

I had a doe like that years ago and she would always look right at me in a tree and blow. It was when I first got my crossbow. I would see her come out in a field corner every other night from the woods . I decided since I wouldn't have to try and draw the crossbow to sit in some bushes just off the...

Re: Risks To Our Environment And Hunting

I kinda laugh as I walk my dog past 3 schools everyday and the amount of garbage I pick up from the kids worried about the death of the planet we caused is amazing !

Re: Surburban Deer

One of the family groups is a group of 4 does one of which is about double the size of the other 3 and is obviously the matriarch. These deer are very skittish and very difficult to catch in the daylight. The old doe is a real pain in my a@#!! She is conscious of every tree and leaf in the woods. I...

Re: Surburban Deer

You have to have 3 acres to hunt and a $2 million liability policy to bowhunt where I live, so there is nobody hunting. The deer are nearly fearless. There is lots of open school district property behind my house and I walk my dogs (bird dogs) off leash there. Frequently deer are grazing on clover ...

Re: Good news for Quebec hunters

First time I hunted birds in the fall I went in before dark and sat right in the middle of about 50 birds of various types (hens, jennies and jakes ) I could not believe the noise they made when waking up in the morning ! I was then able to break them up and call back a couple. It was neat hearing a...

Re: Trying something new this spring

Just my 2 cents but in total truth ....l would rather hunt with my excalibur than with a .410. Or any shotgun for that matter. A big ol super freak extreme or spit max will drop a big bird just as good and no need to resight your bow from deer season . Best of all ...no noise from the tent..my brot...

Re: Trying something new this spring

I've killed about 35 turkeys over the years and I agree with Jansey - a 410 seems a little light for turkeys. To my mind it would be in the ballpark with using a .22 rimfire for deer. You might succeed but you're probably under gunned. A full choke 410 is similar to shooting a rifle at close range ...

Awesome ! Great time of year with lots of prime wild game meat in the freezer. I just did up a pot of Antelope chili and making lasagna tomorrow. But most times a nice grilled backstrap in hard to beat.

Re: Good news for Quebec hunters

Just wondering is Turkey hunting in the fall the same process as spring? Depends if you are targeting hens and jennies or old toms. I have had toms come in on a string like in the spring but mostly they are tough to hunt in the fall. As far as hens (mixed group) if you can break a flock it can be f...
