OT: Vertical double

Hunting has been slow the last couple of weeks. I took the compound bow out for a sit this afternoon and shot the first two that came into range. Here's the combined video.

Congratulations on a fine early season buck. That'll certainly take the pressure off.

Got it bad?

The closer it gets, the more my neck swells. This weekend looks like a total rain out for a lot of us on the East coast. With the expectations for rain, I'd like to have a fresh deer to turn into sausage this weekend. I want one bad, but not so badly that I'd carry my rifle. There's something...

Re: Swat confession

Good advice. The only thing I hate worse than tracking a deer in total darkness is jumping up a wounded deer in total darkness. It makes for a longer and/or restless night.

Re: Freezer Queen and a lesson learned

Congrats on the freezer queen. Considering the slightly quartering away angle, that wasn't a bad shot. You squarely hit the far lung. It's amazing how much ground one can cover in a short period. Good job on the recovery.

Re: Excalibur Beacon Illuminated Nock

I must have missed it if it was mentioned, but do the Beacon nocks have a replaceable battery?

First with the Wolverine

After an eleven year hiatus from using any vertical bow, my shoulder finally decided I've healed enough to give it a go. I've been out twice with a compound bow and twice with a traditional recurve. I was at full draw once with the compound, but decided to pass on the shot. Yesterday I decided it wa...

Re: It takes a special kind of crazy.

Down here in the south you have to take what mother nature gives you. I kind of chuckle when I read sometimes that its 70 degrees and too hot to hunt. That is so true. In some locations the hunting seasons aren't as generous and you either dance when the song is playing or you don't dance at all. I...

It takes a special kind of crazy.

...to hunt in this heat. My Saturday morning was cut real short by my son bagging two from the Killing Tree with his rifle 10 minutes after sunrise. It was too hot to consider an afternoon hunt. This morning it's a sticky 73F degrees. I'm in the Killing Tree 50 minutes before sunrise and look like I...

Re: The difference between Weaver and Picatinny

Correct me if I'm wrong but I found the new ceasefire is very close to the picatinny dimensions. I think you're right. It's certainly not Weaver. Per my caliper and uncalibrated eyeball, the slots are much closer to .206 (>.20) and center-to-center groove width is in the neighborhood of .40 +/- .01...
