He's out there...
All these nice gamecam posts made me feel guilty for holding back. This guy strolled under my stand a few weeks ago. I have yet to see anything like him this season, but I have seen a couple rubs that may be his marks. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/mayvillej/Hunting_2012/2012092519221...

Re: I have a visitor!
I only briefly noticed the antlers. Get a load of the body on that horse. Good luck meeting up with him.

Re: Buck down, many thanks to NewGuy
Very nice buck! Congrats. At 10 yards on the ground would have had my hair standing on its end. I'd be headed back out the next morning for some squirrel hunting.

As hunters we sometimes have to make due with whatever we have. I've had deer in the trunk of a Pontiac on more than one occasion.onebigskittle wrote:your profile pic reminds me of my younger days with my friends piling them up in a galaxy 500 trunk

Fresh young meat.
My luck hasn't been great lately so it was the wrong morning for this young one to stroll by. A Rage 3-blade at 28 yards was a smidge high but still got both lungs. It made it 75 yards straight downhill before pilling up. The Rage was as impressive as ever. Blood trail is an understatement. It left ...

Re: Think I made a boo boo!
I've always considered this to be something I would want to intentionally try to do given the perfect circumstances. In a few decades of hunting, I've never had a perfect situation that I would be comfortable trying. I guess being on ground level with the deer is almost a requirement. If I ever end ...

Re: Hang-On Stands References
This year I picked up one of the Bone Collector Deluxe hang-on stands from Wal-Mart for under $90. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bone-Collector-Deluxe-Hang-On-Treestand/21270187 If you are looking for a very comfortable stand, then keep on looking. This one does have a saddle style seat, so it ma...

O/T: Christened the new vert bow.
Tuesday evening I decided to slip into my stand in virginia for a late hunt. When I got there the landowner was mowing so my preferred stand was a bust. So I climbed the mountain and got seated around 5pm. At 5:35pm a yearling slipped down a trail 15 steps away with mom in tow. I should have paid mo...

It's hot!
I'm in my treestand right now and it's 91 degreed.
I'd like a doe to slip by, but more than anything i'd love a little cooler weather.
Come on fall, it's like a sauna in all this camo.

Re: new deer call camo pattern
I'm partial to the grey camo colors so I like the old one, but I'd be happy as a pig in slop with either of those beauties.

Trail Cam Buck
Well hello there. I hung a new stand location and departed at 5:30pm Sunday. Before dark Sunday I got pics of a doe passing the stand. Monday just before dark this boy slipped by. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/mayvillej/Hunting_2012/PICT0019.jpg I think he may only be a 7 point, but this st...

Re: TO SHOOT OR NOT
If you take that shot aim for the center of the white spot under the neck. The deer will drop like a rock from you severing the spinal cord. I have killed 2 deer so far with this shot. Mind you both were under a 10 yard shot & I was sitting on the ground. X 2. I too have taken two deer with a f...

Re: Screw in tree steps
that step from the steps onto the stand always made me nervous.. Yep, that is the problem that turned me off to the screw in steps. The stand I set up was a Bone Collector Hang-on that has a shooting rail and arm rests. You can't just step down onto the stand. You first have to raise up the armrest...
