No outhouse at our deer camp. Just a fallen tree with a nice view of the woods. Suits me fine! We just put in a wood stove last year after a few years without heat. Got tired of getting up and chipping our frozen boots off the floor. Now it feels like luxury to be able to dry things out and warm up.

I'm not a morning person at all so getting up at 5 a.m. just about kills me. Ugh! Once I get out there I enjoy watching the sunrise and listening to the world come to life! But being a night owl at heart I LOVE the evenings, that's when I'm alive and I always wish for just a few more minutes of dayl...

To uncock with the aid, simply put both hooks on as usual but pull all the rope through to one side so one handle is up against the rail and the other handle in your hand. I take one wrap around my hand as all the rope to one side is slightly long to pull tight if you dont. Take up the pressure kee...

I always use the cocking aid on my Vixen even though I can cock it by hand because with the cocking aid the string will always be centred. I don't have to worry about lining up a spot, etc. Virtually goof-proof. I also uncock with the aid. There have been days when I've been so cold and tired at the...

I love my HS TrueTalker! It does it all. Usually I use it gently and sparingly, but I had an experience last year in late Nov. where I had a soft "conversation" with a few deer that were holed up in some cedars about 80 yds away - it went on for about an hour. A farmer was taking in a corn...

Hi Leah! Great to see you posting here! Was it your Dad that got you into hunting? What a great way to grow up with a Dad who teaches his daughter hunting. GOOD FOR YOU and GOOD FOR HIM!!! Had to laugh about your Trick or Treating incident... Speaking of camo, don't you love seeing all those people ...

What a sad incident. After reading this thread my husband and I took the advice of someone else on this board (THANK YOU!) and added rubberbands to our bow stocks to secure the safety. I don't load my bow unless I'm actually hunting, but I do cock it when I head out and it stays cocked until I'm bac...

Hi Kirk!

I'm in the KW area - home of Excalibur. :D

I hunt on friends' farm properties in the area. We also usually go north for rifle season but it wasn't possible this year so we shotgun hunted locally instead.

Those stick-on heaters are the BEST! I wished they'd been around back in my ice fishing days out west. This tread has me thinking about a heater though... boiling water? toasted sandwich? My blind is going to feel like the Hilton! LOL Hoping I tag soon before I go through too many heat packs! Jo

I don't hunt in rubber boots because my feet sweat horribly (even below freezing temps) I alternate between 2 prs of boots both with rubber bottoms (the "shoe" part). 1 pair has cordura tops and the other has leather tops. I use SnoSeal on them to waterproof them above the rubber an...

Heater in a blind sounds like heaven! When the temps dive I stick those little heater packs in my boots and mitts and one nice big 12 hr stick-on one in the small of my back. Mmmm! Makes for less figetting to keep warm and I can stay out longer. I keep a couple of spares in my pack just in case I ge...

Any other women here?

Just curious - wondering if there are any other women on this board? Often I feel like I'm the only woman wearing camo (although I know it's far from true!) I've been mistaken for a guy when I've met other hunters in the woods and it's made for some funny and awkward moments once or twice  Wou...
