It takes a special kind of crazy.

...to hunt in this heat. My Saturday morning was cut real short by my son bagging two from the Killing Tree with his rifle 10 minutes after sunrise. It was too hot to consider an afternoon hunt. This morning it's a sticky 73F degrees. I'm in the Killing Tree 50 minutes before sunrise and look like I...

Re: The difference between Weaver and Picatinny

Correct me if I'm wrong but I found the new ceasefire is very close to the picatinny dimensions. I think you're right. It's certainly not Weaver. Per my caliper and uncalibrated eyeball, the slots are much closer to .206 (>.20) and center-to-center groove width is in the neighborhood of .40 +/- .01...

Re: Are you ready?

Now I'm ready. Got the Wolverine dialed in with field tips. Screwed on a new ToTA standard vented 100gr and sent the first broadhead downrange at a 1/2" dot at 20 yards. I guess they really do shoot like field tips. https://onedrive.live.com/embed?resid=DE60831E6602D779%2180861&authke...

Re: Hunting camera

I agree that the Tactacam cameras are pretty good for what they do. They make some higher cost options with higher resolution and frame rate, but the cheapest version they make is good deal. Below are videos taken with a Tactacam Solo Hunter attached to an Excalibur. https://youtu.be/iDmYHWCSeK0?si=...

Re: Are you ready?

I'm still waiting on a couple extra packs of Tooth of the Arrow heads to arrive to fill a quiver, but I'm otherwise ready. I've got two vertical bows and two crossbows dialed in. Last Sunday I hung the last two hang-on stands and finalized the other two by tightening straps and placing new cushions....

Re: Pre-season prep: If you build it...will they come?

Sorry to be nosey but that doesn’t look like a stihl? What are ya running and how do you like it?? We’ve ran stihl everything since I was 5 years old and I’m 51.. Similar color to a Stihl, but its an Echo. I have a a weed eater, chain saw, two handheld leaf blowers and a backpack leaf blower that a...

Pre-season prep: If you build it...will they come?

Today began my mad rush to prep for the season with my annual trail clearing outing. I take a weed eater and clean out the trails we use to quietly get to our stands. Not only does it make our entrance smoother, but I've noticed that the deer also take to these groomed trails because we all like the...

Re: New TOTA Single Bevel just released

That's got to be one of the most durable heads on the market. I'd love to see one with a wider cut and a little more weight. Perhaps a 1.25" 150gr or a 1.5" to 2" 200gr.

Put them on a proper arrow and they'd be great medicine for big stuff.

Re: Excaliburs survey

I'm willing to pay for US and/or Canadian made products. The primary broadheads I hunt with now are all made in the USA (ToTA & VPA). I still have some that are made overseas, but I won't be purchasing any more. My compound bow is also made in the US (Bear). Next season I'm considering picking u...

Re: Any new hunting products?

On the crossbow side, I trimmed down my Excal inventory and picked up what could be my last one, a Wolverine. I'm a bit more excited with a traditional recurve that I picked up because the challenge appears to be significant. But I'm dead set on trying my best to bag something with it this fall. I a...

Re: Which current model?

I'd go the new Wolverine or Micro Extreme. Those models with the HO Limbs at 360 fps are barely feeling it compared to what those same limbs are doing on a 400TD or A400EX. X 2, but don't sleep on the Micro 380. Once you see how far a 400TD stretches the HO limbs  , you'll realize that you w...

Re: New Arrow Shaft from Black Eagle

I wondered when they'd get around to coating more arrows. While I was at the Virginia Sportsman's Show this past weekend I picked up a pack of Black Eagle vintage arrows for my stick bow. They have the same wood grain coating and they look awesome. The wood grain is nice, but I was even more impress...

Re: Portable ladderstand

My Dad had a ~10ft ladder stand that he loved and hated. It was made out of steel tubing and was about as portable as one could get back in the early 80's. He killed a lot of deer out of it, but he cussed it equally the same. He complained that the portability was its curse. Every time he would have...

Re: 2023 Trail Cam Photos

Over the past week or so, I've started seeing more antlers. Surprisingly, I haven't seen the normal pile of spikes and fork horns. Most everything that I'm seeing has a little more bone. There are a handful of average 8pt bucks that I'd be happy to stick if any come in bow range. Then we had this fe...
