Re: Heard some news yesterday
Been thinkin' about this one most of the day...........torn between what I would want to do and my faith.....but faith has to win. Take the high road, Ray. Nothing wrong with your plan to get evidence and press charges but retaliation will not help. As you said above, there is no reasoning with some...

Re: Buffalo Setup - Easton FMJ bolts
John ... from what I can tell the Easton FMJ was developed for big game (elk, moose, etc) and is a carbon shaft with an Al shaft around it. Your suggested setup is what I think I am looking for......about 500 grains, 15 - 20% FOC and 300ish fps. I guess I will have to contact Easton or someone to se...

Buffalo Setup - Easton FMJ bolts
Just heard from a pro-staffer working with the outfitter I am hunting bison with in Dec. He suggests Easton Full Metal Jacket Bolts. He is not a crossbow hunter but does everything archery and has had great success with these shafts on a buffalo - complete pass through. Any one have any experience w...

Re: A Couple Techie Questions
I think after all my shooting today I am not too worried. I agree that it is something happening when all the energy gets released into the arrow. I know it is flexing (as we have all seen in some high speed footage somewhere) and I think it is just rubbing a bit on the rail. Accuracy does not seem ...

Re: A Couple Techie Questions
Strum, I just bought the crossbow this fall so everything is factory. It is the Excel factory string. I don't think the Q-fletch caused anything, except for me to notice what is going on. I think I cut through the top coating and exposed the glue underneath and that left the rust colored stripe down...

Re: A Couple Techie Questions
Update after a long day of shooting. Checked out the rail for obvious nicks - nothing Checked the spring and it looked ok as well marked the string R and L of the rail Cocked the bow "righty" and "lefty" saw maybe a slight difference in where the marks ended up but it was hard to...

Re: A Couple Techie Questions
I have a bunch of Horton bolts I am trying to use up. Tey have moon nocks and a cock vane. Maybe I should just dump them. I am going to be shooting today so I will look at the spring, and check out the rail. I have some arrows I've not shot so I should be able to use those to check for wear.

Re: A Couple Techie Questions
Gerald, I saw a post somehwere on here about "tiller" and figured this is what is was. And my thinking is a little more FOC will help it a bit since it's showing up on the back part of the arrow?? FOC on the arrows I am shooting now is probably only 8-12% Masboy, Using the cocking aid ever...

A Couple Techie Questions
1) Marks on my arrows - I fletched some Horton Carbon arrows with the 3" Quickspin Quickfletches the other day. They shoot great - durability is a bit questionable though, but when I was done I noticed a rust colored film on the left side of the rail on my Vortex. Figured out is was from the wr...

Re: new digital scale question
I think these cheapo scales are great for what we are generally doing....but I doubt they are very accurate for an "absolute" weight. But that is generally not of primary concern. What they will show you is how much arrows, points, etc vary between each other (great indicator of good and n...

Re: new digital scale question
Larry, Unfortunately it looks like something is off with the scale. There are 15.43236 grains in 1 gram. There are 28.3495 grams in 1 ounce. Firebolt with 150 grain head should be around 415 grains = 26.90grams = 0.95oz. You said 3.48oz, which would be 98.66 grams, which is 1522 grains. So it looks ...

Re: AZ EZ fletch, Which One?
I have the aluminum 4 degree offset one and have fletched 4" Quickspin vanes with it and have not seen a huge difference. Maybe because I was always re-fletching flyers in an attempt to bring them in. Interestingly though, I just bought some Quickspin Quickfletch 3" crossbow" vanes ye...

Re: Broadhead question (new bow)
I've found that FPs that are the same length as the BH make a difference as well...meaning if I can shoot FPs that are close to the same length as the BHs then the BHs will tend to hit the same spot. Thunderheads are pretty long. I shot them for years but when they added grooves to them they flew di...

Re: Setup for Bison Hunt
awshucks....that makes me feel better. Those ribs are my main concern. Nice to hear you busted one. The carbon Firebolts with a 150 gr head only puts me around 415gr. total wt. I was thinking of trying some Carbon Express Magnum Hunter bolts, but I gotta check out the weight.

Re: Setup for Bison Hunt
Thanks Scott! I can't believe tell you how much more I like te Vortex than the Hortons. I'm a total convert. Had a new string put on one of my Horton's this year and on about the 15th pull back it blew up in my hands. I was very lucky I didn't get hurt and no flying pieces hit anyone else. That was ...
