Re: Smoke
I grew up on a dairy farm and spent many evenings sitting on the edge of a woods overlooking a field, or in the weeds around a rock pile right after leaving the barn and had deer walk within 4 feet of me without ever smelling me. I don't farm anymore, but I do have a woodstove in my cabin and smokin...

Re: Is it my imagination
Deer pretty much went nocturnal early this year, but I was able to harvest a couple1 1/2 year olds and gave one to my brother in-law since his wife is alergic to beef. Checked my cameras again today and they are now coming out about an hour before last light so I will start hunting again tomorrow. B...

Re: I have to say this to people that I know will understand
My brother a year younger than me was unable to hunt much this year. Early archery season the top strap on his climbing stick snapped. He hung onto the ladder rung until it swung down and he slammed into the tree crushing his hip.. He then fell to the ground and shattered his pelvis.. he laid on the...

Re: Venison Aging/Processing
I prefer to hunt late season so that I can let the meat hang for 4 or 5 days before processing, then trim the dried meat off for grinding. If I happen to shoot something early season I generally pressure can with some spices.. cajun, onion & garlic, a couple slices of jajapeno's, and also pressu...

Glad to hear you are healing up good.

Re: Which hard cases for Matrix?
I use a Plano Tactical all weather hard case. It has pluckable foam which I plucked after tracing around around the stock frame after removing the limbs. After the foam was plucked I placed the crossbow in the case and set the limb assembly on top after removing the stirrup. I did do a little trimmi...

Re: How many of you are ready to roll?
I target practice so am good there.
I spent a couple days cleaning up shooting lanes and making improvements to my platform blind.
I do need to cut a piece of material from an old blind the brother in-law threw out and attach it to the back of one of my blinds.

Re: Bear advise.
Pick an area where you won't be deer hunting.
Brother in-law let someone harvest a bear on his property a few years ago. The traffic from baiting and hunting bear drove all the deer off his property.
It was nice that they all came across the road to the property I hunt.

If you can stand the deer flies it's a beautiful time to be in the North woods.

Re: TRIGGER TECH QUESTION
Danny Miller told me to just wipe the rail with wd40, wipe the rail dry, that's all. I have no problems. This is basically what I do but I am using a military grade synthetic oil. I clean the rail with it periodically and wipe it dry. I wax my string if it starts to show any fuzz and wax my serving...

We don't have running water at our cabin and have been getting water from an artesian well about 7 miles away. I just ordered everything needed to put in a sand point well and will be installing it as soon as Menards gets the pump in. (6/20/21) We have a spring fed pond there but my cabin sits on a ...
