Re: Stands are up. Pass me the Rub A5-35.
A full head of hair......soooo over rated. At least that is what I tell my brother who has managed to retain his. Haircuts are now so much quicker and efficient. I just tell'em, number 4 clipper classic bald guy look. In minutes what few grey locks I have left are on the floor and I am walking out t...

Re: this morning's lesson....
Well I searched until nightfall but never found the deer. My guess is it is dead and bear food. When I went back to the area to search there was a very fresh pile of bear poop that wasn't there in the morning. My first lost deer in over 40 years of hunting. It has been unseasonably hot here on Vanco...

this morning's lesson....
Don't have your thumb on the rail of the Exomax when you squeeze the trigger... it smarts! I was peering through the scope at a good size Vancouver Island black-tail doe at 30 yards. There was some brush in the way, but the heart-lung area was visible. I squeezed off the shot and what pain. My follo...

Re: Climbing Treestands and Crossbows
Despite having over 40 years of hunting experience, I have never owned a tree stand until recently. I did a lot of reading and decided on the Summit Viper. However, last week when I was on vacation and went to the Cabelas in northern Washington state (nobody carries them on Vancouver Island where I ...

Re: cooking coon
I roasted a coon 30 plus years ago. I remember it being very greasy and tasting similar to a pork roast. If I was down on my luck and in need of food, I wouldn't hesitate to cook another. It is probably best to stay away from urban garbage eating coons.

Re: uncocking difficulty?
I stand 5 feet 9 inches and weigh 150 pounds, and am 55 years old. I am not muscular. I have no problem using the cocking rope to uncock my 225 pound Exomax. It is more difficult to cock than uncock. If you can cock an Excalibur then you are quite capable of uncocking one with the cocking rope.

Re: O/T - Happy Thanksgiving!
My wife is American and I am Canadian. We live in Canada, but celibrate both American and Canadian Thanksgiving because we figure that we have a lot to be thankful for. Besides, I can't resist a double helping of turkey and pumpkin pie.

Re: Large Game Hunters!
I bought my Exomax last July with the intention of hunting deer, moose and elk. So far, I have only hunted and harvested one deer; still trying to fill my second deer tag. Elk hunting on Vancouver Island where I live is by lottery only. In 20 years of entering the VI elk lottery, I have had no succe...

Government of British Columbia biologist for the past 15 years. Before that whatever biology work I could find. If none was to be had, I painted houses, picked and sold worms for fish bait, carpentry work, and whatever else it took to pay the bills.

Re: Hunting in the rain
I live and hunt on Vancouver Island. When it is pouring rain I leave the crossbow at home and use a gun. I don't want to loose a deer because of the blood trail washing away.

55 for me. It's strange, but the years seem to be getting shorter as I get older.

Re: purchasing a cross bow for the first time
I went with the Exomax (225 lb) because I only wanted to buy one crossbow and plan on hunting moose, deer and elk. With a cocking rope it isn't too bad to cock and I am not a big fellow (about 150 lb).

Re: POLL - are fawns fair game?
Harvested a fawn this morning. My first Xbow kill. I have been hunting hard since the start of archery season on August 25th, saw many deer (including a big 4 X 4 buck), but this was the only one I was able to get close enough for a shot. First saw it at 50 yards, stalked to within 30 yards and let ...

Re: POLL - are fawns fair game?
Where I live on Vancouver Island there are too many deer. It is near impossible to grow a garden without fencing it. Yes, I would and have harvested fawns. They are great eating - just not much meet.

Re: range finders - any advice?
Thanks for the suggestions on range finders. I will start shopping around. I probably will not mount the range finder on my Exomax. Our local fish and game club has a series of archery targets through the woods. Yesterday, after an hour and a half of carrying the crossbow I noticed it was already pl...
