Re: Do Air Brakes or Reds Affect Speed?

I have both on my bow. I mainly bought them thinking they will reduce some of the stress on my limbs. I think they quiet the bow (and look cool). Not sure if they slow my bow down. (I doubt REDS slow the bow, Air Brakes might a little.)

Re: What kind of deflection numbers are there for BD400, 420,440 bows?

I cracked a limb (by dry firing my bow within 2weeks of owning it). My old limbs were 53. The new limbs Dawn sent me were 67. The new limbs were noticably faster and I was penetrating my bag target past the fletchings (wasn’t doing that before). Had to substantially beef up my target. I was very ple...

Re: Strange thing happened with Dead Zone

Thanks Ferguson. I’ll do that when I get my scope. I think the Nikon Bolt will be the perfect scope for my bow.

Re: Strange thing happened with Dead Zone

You guys are right. I don’t give up easy but I think I’ve had it. I was just outside and as I was shooting, I kept having to creep up the speed dial back to 330 again. Scope still sort of clear though. Still zeroing at 20 yards. I have no idea what is going on with it. I’m going to get online and or...

Strange thing happened with Dead Zone

So anyway, had to get a new warantee Dead Zone scope because mine wasn’t holding zero/grouping. New scope holds zero and groups well. Interestingly, I had to turn the speed dial on the new scope to 330 to line up the distance reticles (whereas when I was using my sons Dead Zone, I had it set at 300)...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

Mark, I worked through improving the scope rail to trigger housing along with improving the trigger housing to rail mounting screws awhile back. Take a look and see if it is a modification that you would like to pursue to reduce your headaches with the scope mounting. http://www.excaliburcrossbow.c...

Re: New broadhead target. Arrows stuck.

You’re right. Cleaning off the melted plastic and removing the duct tape residue smoothed out my arrows so I can use the block target without getting them stuck (still need the arrow grabber for the block). Update on the Boltcutters: I had a blobs of glue on an arrow from repairing the fletchings. S...

Re: New broadhead target. Arrows stuck.

Arrow gripper wouldn’t budge arrows. Wood block and a few taps with the hammer and they came out covered with melted plastic. Easy to scrape off. Might just use the foam block for sighting broadheads. (Btw, Boltcutters aren’t grouping like field points—maybe test multiple arrows to find the one (jus...

Re: New broadhead target. Arrows stuck.

I’ll try a block of wood on the nock and a tap with a hammer to break the weld. Got an arrow gripper also.

New broadhead target. Arrows stuck.

Just got a broadhead target so I can test the broadheads before spring bear season. Got a Mofoam Chunk layered foam target. Now my arrows are stuck. Sprayed silicon lube beside the stuck arrows and letting it soak in. Coated an arrow with lube and shot into the target at 20 yards and just buried it ...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

I’m going to try a set. My diablos are usually darn accurate but if I notice a group opening up or a flyer, its usually because of the four scope rail/mount side screws shaking loose. Thanks Damn those screws! If mine get loose again, I’m going to get lockwashers and RED (yes, I said RED!) locktite...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

I bought the zombies from Wyvern Creations website. Dave builds them specifically for Excalibur crossbows. I bought 18” ones for the matrix. They come with flat nocks, helical blazer vanes, brass inserts and 100 grain field tips. As they arrived, they weighed 412 grains (according to my wife’s cooki...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

Good question. Just spun the boltcutter onto the Zombie and the arrow insert lines up with the shaft of the broadhead. Same as on the Diablos. Boltcutter is the fixed broadhead sold by Excalibur. They have 150 and 100 grain heads.

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

Thanks Ferguson. Everything going well. The zombie Slayers are much more consistent and group better. I bought a bunch of them. New warantee Dead Zone works well. I’m going to use 150 grain Boltcutters for the bear. The arrows will weigh 462 grains (more with luminoks). Getting a broadhead target th...
