Re: Energy out of a bow

Is there a way to calculate how heavy an arrow needs to be to get the most energy out of your bow? I have a M405 and wonder how heavy I should go. Thanks in advance. The bow limbs store a specific amount of potential energy when cocked, and if you had a perfectly efficient setup then all that energ...

Re: "New" Trigger Tech - Decock Issue

Since they haven't fixed their issues in 4+ years, I wouldn't hold my breath either. :? Maybe with enough of us griping they'll pay attention and fix these issues. I was also told bounceback was due to me not following through on my shot. That may well have been true, but I don't think the trigger s...

Re: "New" Trigger Tech - Decock Issue

Yeah. I like the idea of Trigger Tech. I still have one in my non-Excal bow. But I don't think I'm going to be buying any more of them. They've had issues from the very beginning with the claws bouncing back shut, and there was a thread here not long ago about how the case threads strip out easily. ...

Re: question about triggers- Exomax vs Matrix

I love the idea. How is it to cock? I can't tell a difference between it and a 380. Obviously Excal has completely discontinued their standard rifle stock entirely; every single one of their models is a thumbhole. Bleh. When I first started shooting a crossbow I thought I'd like the thumbhole stock...

Re: question about triggers- Exomax vs Matrix

Just an update on this, in case anyone is interested in the future. I've got a couple of dozen shots on the new bow. I'm sticking with the original Exomax trigger; it's smooth and nice. The powerstroke ended up being almost exactly 1/4" longer than a Matrix 380. I put a flemish string on it fro...

I've always thought that Mad Max camo was the best I've seen on an Excal. Thumbs up, catter!

Re: FOC question

E You are right but how would you measure that? I think that is why the AMO settled on the center of the shaft for the standard. Center of pressure is where the forces on the arrow equal out, so it is somewhere between the center of the shaft and where the fletching is located, and will depend on d...

Re: FOC question

... FOC is how far forward of the center of pressure the balance point is. For our purposes, the center of pressure is also the center of the shaft. I want to know far forward of the center of pressure the balance point is. Hmm. I'm not sure I quite believe that. The vanes/fletching should move the...

Re: question about triggers- Exomax vs Matrix

Thanks for the replies. I may end up doing a Triggertech; I'm open to it if needed. Based on what people seem to think here I'm leaning towards trying the one that came with the Exomax first though. Maybe I'll ask Boo if he's up for doing a trigger job on the original one to save a few bucks and kee...

question about triggers- Exomax vs Matrix

I've got an Exomax (last generation, full-camo) that's at a machinist to get the mainframe shortened so I can mount a Matrix front end to it. The powerstroke will be really close to a Matrix 380 in length, maybe 1/4" longer (so quite a bit shorter than the 405). I'm wondering, with the added pe...

Re: Trigger Swapping

I think I've read that Excal will rework a gritty trigger as a warranty issue? Might save you a few dollars. Also, you could compare and contrast between the reworked trigger and the Trigger Tech and tell us what you think. :D

Re: Spring hunting & black flies

I feel sorry for people in areas with bad flies. The UP of Michigan, northern MN, and parts of Canada can be just brutal. I've got a few bug-proof shirts from this company: http://www.bugshirt.com/ And I've also got a few of their pants. The shirts can be a little claustrophobic, and if it's hot and...

Exo series dovetail mount for front sight

I'm looking for a measurement from an Exo series Excal. I'd like the distance from the center of the barrel (centerline of the shaft of the arrow) to the nearest edge of the dovetail mount on the riser. I'm having a pin holder made that fits some easily purchased 3/16" square base brass pins. I...
