Re: blinds

I sold my ladder stands last year and pretty much only use ground blinds or permanent shooting houses now. Blinds set up and take down in just a few minutes and take much less storage space in the off season. I put discarded office chairs from work in mine. Much more comfortable than any ladder I've...

Re: Where did "smoked" come from?

We used the term in baseball... when the pitcher blows a fastball by the batter, he smoked it, meaning the ball was moving so fast it was smoking. Same with a good hit, as in he smoked a line drive in the gap for a double, etc. Never used it referring to hunting though, but I get the idea. Slang cha...

Good golly, that’s HUGE! I can’t even wrap my mind around tackling something that size.
Here in the South, anything bigger than a dog is Big Game.
LOL same here, I wouldn't know what to do if something that big walked by!

Congrats on a great harvest and great story too!

Re: Scope Question

Good deal, Dan. Set it where you're comfortable with the view. The scope on my 380 is zoomed down as low as it will go and still line up thru 50 yards and I haven't moved it. Even on my rifle scopes I rarely zoom past 4 or 5 in hunting situations, I just don't like the narrow FOV at higher magnifica...

I have my scopes half way maxed out on zoom and leave it there for all my shooting distances. I never mess with my scopes once I dial them in.
x2
X3. I set mine where my shots line up with the yardage lines and leave it.

That looks pretty interesting. I'd love to have a lifted 4wd golf cart for hunting, you could drive to your stand in near silence.

Re: Bifocals

I have a little story about bifocals that might shed some light and, hopefully, discussion. I’m 71 and have worn bifocals for about 20 years. I first got progressive. I noticed distortion as I looked near the edges and between the distant and near junction. At the time, I was deep into benchrest an...

Re: Bifocals

I wore them for a few years until I went to progressive lenses almost two years ago. With either type of lens I look through the top (distance) part of my lens so my target is clear, although this does make the reticle a bit fuzzy. I guess it depends on your prescription as to how fuzzy that might b...

Re: What is the weirdest thing you have ever come across or found in the woods while hunting?

Furniture in a cave. I used to hunt deep inside a national forest, part of which is very rugged terrain and is a designated wilderness area (nothing but foot traffic allowed). I found a cave and wandered in for a look see and there's a couch, end tables, and various odd and ends. Clearly being inhab...
