Intresting POI shift
Was doing some shooting/playing around this weekend and saw this. Shooting from a bench, with bags front and back. Vortex, FFF string, 503gr arrow Sighted in some new arrows at 40yds and had about a 1 1/2" group across all 5 arrows. Feeling pretty good, I decided to try to quiet the bow down a ...

Re: Hawke XB1 speed ring calibration
It seems to be that is it important to have the correct ballistics coefficient of your arrow entered into that app to get accurate yardages. I guess you can use it either way. Set it to a fixed magnification and note the yardage for eacj cross hair, or set it such that each cross hair falls on an ev...

Re: Washer weights
I have a bunch of Slick Trick washers I'll send ya, for free, but yer spinning your wheels. 'Met' a fellow on another forum that had 6" variance at 30 yds and was convinced it was 125 gr mixed w/ 100 gr he normally shot. I made up one of each, the shafts were touching at 30 I would think stack...

Re: Arrow Builders - How Do You Do Inserts?
My arrow building days started with my first Excalibur ownership during the very early 90's. My prep is simple and I have never had an insert pull out of the toughest targets since using the following method. Other preps may vary . 1) weigh and uniform (weights) inserts. 2) one+ year ago I began to...

Arrow Builders - How Do You Do Inserts?

Re: FOC question
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that FOC has nothing at all to do with arrow flex/spine or trajectory. Rather I believe it's all about center of mass, and the relationship between center of mass and the distance from it to the vanes. The longer the distance, the better the ability of...

Re: FOC question
As I said earlier I think it all has to do with the relationship between where the shaft flexes during flight and the balance point. IMO the shaft flexes the same with a 125 gr BH or FP installed on it. To me high FOC does 2 things. It helps accuracy by changing the trajectory of the arrow and it he...

Re: FOC question
I use method one because I think the arrow flexes about the center of the shaft when fired, but flexes at the balance point when it hits the target. Adding different length points won't change that center flex point. So my center point is halfway from the back of the nock to the end of the insert. T...

Re: Broadhead weights
Sorry I haven't been on in a few days Each arrow shaft has a "stiff side". Think of an aluminum arrow being made with a seam along its length. The seam would be stiffer than the rest. Carbon arrows have a similar stiff side. It is commonly called the spine or static spine of the arrow. Do ...

Re: Broadhead weights
Well guys i do have a little insight on this topic due to the testing i have been doing since the end of this past deer season. i have been trying to put a 125gr slick trick ( standard, magnum, and a Griztrick) ontop of my factory stock and a blazer fletched arrow, WITH OUT adding any weight up fro...

Re: Help me build my Crossbow.
I'm fine with the stock quiver or quicky quiver. Bolts, I'd say 18" BE Zombies with 92gr brass inserts, 100gr points, and 2"blazers. Also, I'm loving the HHA Optimizer. edit: forgot about the target. Field points, spyderweb crossbow target is great but pricey. Third hand archery rag bag t...

Re: Broadhead weights
I'm one of those guys Kegbelly. 92gr brass inserts and 100gr points. Reason for me is that there are more options available for 100gr broadheads than any other weight. And because I love those toxic broadheads. I also like the flexibility it offers. If I did want to go heavier for extreme foc I can...

Re: why that broadhead
Yes! nice discussion bringing out different points of view. And your point about a heavier arrow being smoother is a good one. I also think the crossbow is a little more efficient with a heavier arrow - transferring more energy to the arrow - hence the quieter shot with less vibration. That being th...

Re: why that broadhead
Momentum is mass times velocity P=mv KE is one half the mass times the square of the velocity KE=(MVV)/2 That is a huge difference especially when talking about velocity. In momentum mass and velocity each contribute linearly. It is easy to see that a 400gr arrow going 300fps and a 300gr arrow going...

Re: why that broadhead
I'm unconvinced of the good doc's theory on momentum vs kinetic energy. I think it looks great on paper and the traditional shooters love and swear by it. I for one would rather see a 400 gr. arrow with a super short chisel point bh smash through a shoulder at 360fps than a 600 gr. arrow at 200fps....
