Re: Carnivorous deer?!?!?

I'm no animal doctor & I've never played one on tv but I bet due to the organisms in their stomachs & it's design for rumination would prohibit that sort of omnivore behavior from happening very often; digestion would seem to be a HUGE problem. The mineral starvation from antler growth theor...

Re: Carnivorous deer?!?!?

Minerals. Not unheard of but I've never actually seen it before; a guy I used to work with told me he saw a buck eat a baby bunny once & had seen them eat eggs.

Thanks for linking that, I bet most people didn't know a deer could become omnivorous!

Re: Cost of tags

Here in Arkansas it's $10.50 for the basic license, $25.00 for the archery addition (sportsman's license) & $35.00 for what's called the combination sportsman's license which combines the $25 sportsman's with the fishing license. A trout stamp is $5.00 & a leased land permit (public hunting ...

Re: Who else loves hunting in the rain?

..... But if you can recommend a brand of rain gear, I'd be willing to reconsider! Anything with a nylon taffeta outer & a gortex liner works well & is light/small enough to pack in a cargo pocket. Nylon taslan is a bit too heavy; doesn't pack well & is a real bear when it eventually so...

Re: Ooooops.

Ah; ok I getcha'.....in the first post you said it was "close to the bottom line" so that led me to the conclusion it wasn't there yet; being past it clears up the confusion & sets my mind at ease a bit.

Re: Who else loves hunting in the rain?

Afterall; hunting isn't JUST about the kill. For me it's church, the Discovery channel, menu planning complete with cooking & tasting the dish in your mind, a time to reflect on my past, mull over aspects of projects waiting to be finished at home & shopping all rolled into one. It's defini...

Re: Ooooops.

I thought it was supposed to be ok to shoot anywhere between the brace lines....mental note - keep it from the middle up & no lower.

Thanks for the heads up, good thing to know being new to this bow & all.

Re: Who else loves hunting in the rain?

I like being alone & the rain makes that happen. It's even better if I'm fairly certain I'm in a good spot for lightening protection; then I like nature to put on an impressive lightening display too....the more awe inspiring the better Afterall; hunting isn't JUST about the kill. For me it's ch...

Re: VA bucks

North central Arkansas bucks are mostly scrawny genetically inferior specimens; it makes me sick to see the nice healthy non-mutant bucks you other people have hanging around

Glad to see ya'll have some nice prospects for the opener!

Re: old forum members never die, they just fade away......

I won't vote as I have only hovered for a year or so but I see a LOT of good in people here; I see a lot of what today's society calls "paying it forward" (personally I hate that phrase as much as "my bad").....I was just reading where Cossack is getting kudos for doing his best ...

Re: Rattle bag v. rattling antlers

.... I know all of the buck fights I have seen were more moderate, ticking of the tines types with the occasional solid hit. I have only seen the one instance I related above but there must have been ten fights going on all at once & I left before they did after about four hours so I probably s...

Glad to hear it; especially if I end up there for work again, I can take my crossbow without the need to screw with the sights!
