Re: How big are your deer
The more deer in your hunting area the smaller their average size. It's a QUALITY food, water and space thingy. It never ceases to amaze me how many long time deer hunters don't know much at all about this: they seem to think that as long as things are green there's plenty of food!!! ...

Re: How big are your deer
I shot 3 big bucks in OH when I liver there that went over 200lbs dressed, and my son shot one that was right there as well. In Iowa I shot a 2 1/2 year old that was over 200. I weigh about 180 and I was trying to hang the carcass (no head, hide or anything) by myself. I couldn't do it. Even if I pu...

Re: AM or PM?
Either is fine. Since I work, I hunt a lot of afternoons. I am not particularly fond of shooting a deer at last light and blood trailing in the dark, but it is what it is. That is one benefit of the morning. You have lots of light to track by.

Re: Rage Broadheads
Shot a few deer with them. Two opened early. I got lucky on one and unlucky on the other. Fixed from now on. As was said earlier shot opportunities are too few to waste. Also, on the ones I did recover, the blades were trashed. Too much $$ for a "disposable" head for me.

Re: boar hog
You need a pretty beefy arrow to get a pass through - especially if you hit the shield. This guy has 3 really good videos showing how tough the hog shield is. Here is the first.

Re: Montec G5
I use the g5 montecs 125 grains. Like said before they can be a pain to sharpen. I do like how they fly and group nicely. I do have the slick tricks in 125 grain but the cutting width is smaller. If you have the "Standard 1 inch" Slick Trick in 125gr, you can use the "magnum" bl...

Re: Montec G5
I used the Montec CS on a buffalo last year. It performed great. But I do have trouble getting them really sharp with their stone/method. I just looked at the website and they now offer a "crossbow version" of the Montec, but I can't find any info on it. Does anyone know what is different?

Re: First Time Crossbow Hunting 2003 Exocet
Congratulations on your first Xbow Deer!! Don't be afraid to put the arrow in front of the shoulder/leg on quartering to shots. That will get you a double lung hit and a short blood trail

Re: Broadheads
Try lining the blades up with the vanes. If the Boltcutters are the new ones with BAT, you should be able to easily align them. If not a small rubber O ring can work. After that, try shooting with different vanes in the channel. Mark them so you can keep track. With shorter arrows and faster speeds,...

It will probably fly just fine. Give it a shoot.

I'm the same way. I like to tinker and doing this is a win win for me. It might not help me kill a deer....but then again it just might in the right situation.
