Re: Upgrade to Matrix 380 (looking for an opinion)

Own an exomax…just bought a matrix 380. Have not harvested with the 380, but it is a tact driver as best I can do out to 50 yards. I bought a second crossbow to accommodate family coming to hunt during the season. But that really was an excuse - had not bought a bow in years! Anyways…should you trad...

Re: Binoculars

I can tell tell you that the Swarovski 10x42 ELs that I am fortunate to have are spectacular. They are not HD, and we lucked into them at about 40% of retail in perfect condition…and they are great. I do believe that you get what you pay for in optics. About 10 years ago we were on a tour in a Natio...

Re: horrible feeling

Sorry to hear about the loss of your deer. I hunt exclusively with archery tackle, and harvest about 10 deer a year and it is not uncommon to loose at least one a year. it kills me each time, but it happens. Even with solid shot placement, the simple fact is there are many variables that come into p...

Re: Processing your own deer

I know exactly what you mean. I started processing y own a few years ago when I realized I was paying a lot - I mean a lot - for butchering and processing fees. At 475 to butcher, and $4 a pound for sausage (they mix in 50% pork) per pound on the RETURN as well as $10 a pound for jerky at finished w...

Re: POLL - are fawns fair game?

Here in a VA we have an urban problem so it will definitely not effect the herd. I took two a couple years ago and though there was not much meat, it was the best jerky I ever made. I won't take them with spots, but that is just personal. Its a lot of work for a little meat so it is not what I go af...

Re: Gun Safe Shopping....

Second on the Fort Knox. If recall when we got ours it was the best fire rating for residential safes. As noted, they are not the cheapest but for the extra couple hundred dollars, I am happy that we have the best fire protection we can get. I did have to save another year...but it was worth the wai...

Re: Thanksgiving recipies?

We do backstraps a couple ways, but always a winner is below: marinade in a zip lock bag. Usually we do one whole back strap (which takes up about 1/2 a gallon ziploc bag) in the following overnight or for 36ish hours: - red wine to completely cover and then some extra (don't go too cheap - cheap wi...

Re: One question...getting a Boo sting

Forgot to add...should I also get a spare at the same time? I know it would be impossible getting one right before or in the season...or since his strings are soo strong with at least a few years or life, should I just keep a stock one in reserve. Advantage of getting an identical sting at the same ...

One question...getting a Boo sting

OK - so I am getting ready to order a Boo string...shooting stock for five years on the Exomax and its times to get a Boo. Don has been great, and I am all set on the order but am stuck on if I want to order the whiskers. I read the previous posts and all the info Dan graciously sent to me. At first...

Re: How Fast Can You Setup a Climber?

Ditto having a Viper...about 10-15 minutes once I pickthe tree. Course, that is always my problem...always thinking the one or two feet this way, or three that is "better." Of course, the sweat doubles and time increases when I forget something on the ground, or I drop a glove, hat, etc an...

Re: O/T southern eastern Ontario pepperettes , Salami etc.

Hey - I know this really does not answer the question, but have you thought about making your own? After a few years of giving the butcher loads of money, I bought the gear to make my own. A good stuffer (Northern Tool 5lb which identical to the LEM one - $200) and a good grinder ($300 but you can f...

Re: Piebald deer

We have one that we have seen two years. A small buck. No photos - sorry. First time I saw him was last year. I heard a ruckus coming towards me, got ready for some shooting when I saw this white thing running towards me. It was a real runt - I thought it was a dog. I was thinking "well, this s...

Re: Freezer burn.

Definitely second the vac-sealer recommendation. We got one from Costco five years ago for $100. We fill the freezer in the fall and I have pulled meat at the two year mark with no problem at all. Also recommend buying the name brand bags - I cheaped out buying some from Walmart and they will work o...
