Re: OT: Spring!

63F. here this morning. It's supposed to be 18F. by morning with ice, sleet and snow tomorrow and Thursday. Then even colder Friday. The calendar still says February and we'll just have to wait a little longer for spring. It is getting closer

Re: OT: An Interesting Encounter

I really enjoyed the story, " BUT " beeing from down here in, Missouri, I have never heard of a Merlin, and the Dumb Ars question is,,,,,, Is a Merlin in the Hawk family ?? Dave :eusa-think: I did a little quick research and discovered that merlins have been seen all over Missouri ...

Re: What Is The Downside To Shooting A Heavy Arrow (600gr+) At Deer?

"Google some studies on archery wounding percentage over time. Back when guys used heavy arrows and trad bows the wounding percentage was pretty low...like 10% or 15%. Since the advent of compounds and the shift to lighter arrows, many studies from different states show that it is somewhere ar...

Re: What Is The Downside To Shooting A Heavy Arrow (600gr+) At Deer?

This is a great conversation and an analogy given here some years back said it would be like a Prius going 40 mph hitting a brick wall VS. a semi truck going 30 mph hitting the same wall. Remember the theory of action & reaction. The heavier load requires more to stop it! All of the physics tak...

Re: What Is The Downside To Shooting A Heavy Arrow (600gr+) At Deer?

Has it been proven beyond a doubt that a 600 gr. set up, shot from the same bow with the same broadhead, will penetrate a shoulder bone when a 400 gr. set up will not? It was stated that a heavy arrow doesn't care what tip it has, but can we be sure? Is it not possible that one broadhead performs be...

Re: What Is The Downside To Shooting A Heavy Arrow (600gr+) At Deer?

Nothing has happened to me personally that would compel me to start buying and installing heavy inserts to achieve a much greater weight. Currently, I buy Black Eagle Executioners or Zombies and thread on whatever 100, 125 or 150gr. head I want to use. Before I hunt, I shoot a field or target tip of...

At least it's cold so if the coyotes didn't find her, the meat should be fine.

Re: 2022 Hunting season

. We have a lot of big bluegills in our pond and with the cold weather settling in, I'm going to do a little ice fishing. Well that just made my day! Re: 2022 Hunting season

My season certainly wasn't great, but I still enjoyed myself. Being retired and having a comfortable house on the land where I hunt, I expected to hunt a lot more often than I did. Life has a way of disrupting plans as we all learn eventually. In September I killed my first crossbow turkey. The next...
