Thanks comfy bear - Great to have a place with knowledgable people to ask questions and get good answers.

Right after I posted this thread I noticed your thread on your FF strings and notice that you are way ahead of me with your dyneema FF strings.

Thanks again.

strings

I have never made my own strings, but recently I purchased some new fishing line. This kind: http://users.acsol.net/~wfi/index.html The braided spectra line. I purchased 200 lb test - 150 yds. The color is kind of an off Grey. While browsing the forums here, I wondered if the line could be used to m...

Got some time to try sealing an Erdie kraft mailing tube with silicone sealant. Mixed up some sealant/caulking and painted the tube. I did the whole exterior and about 8" to 9" from the ends of the inside. Also, made the sure the ends were done well. Let the tube dry for 24 hours and exami...

Looks good. Are those tubes waterproof or water resistant? I think they are probably water resistant. Since they are designed as mailing tubes they must be able to withstand some rain, etc. In my neighborhood, packages such as mailing tubes get left outside on porches in the rain fairly often. But ...

Okay - I'll see if this works for posting. Photo of tube, the yellow are the prusik knot loops: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/terry_and_pearl/detail?.dir=6206re2&.dnm=4220re2.jpg&.src=ph In the above photo you can see the carabiners and the black strap which was a cat collar. I had to undo t...

Not sure if anybody else has made one of these, but... I wanted something to hold my bolts and broadheads. But didn't want to pay a lot of money and besides I like making my own. Wanted something I could wear at my hip, over the shoulder or across my back. What I made I can also send through the mai...

I remembered an old (emphasis on old) Dremel tool I have in the garage. Pulled that out and selected a cylindrical grind stone tool. Took 2 new utility blades from my dispenser. Put a blade in ViseGrips and the Visegrips in the bench vise so that the bald was held horizontally, or nearly so. Then wi...

I accidentally found a tool called "EZE-Strip". Sold by quite a few sites and Cabelas. Simply, it is a utility blade with a circular nock cut in each end of the blade and sharpened. When one nock no longer works, simply reverse the blade. You can buy their special utility knife (actually j...

Curious

All I have read recently about crossbow bolts only mentions AL or carbon warp bolts. At one time wood was used exclusively for crossbow bolts. Does anybody use wood anymore. Is AL or carbon wrap so superior that wood, cedar I suppose, is unthinkable? Would there be any advantage to using wood other ...

I think I would like to try the Gold Tip Laser II bolt. I can find the shafts listed with flat end nocks. The listings (even the Gold Tip site) are totally silent on two points: 1. do the shafts include inserts??? If not where do I find inserts. Even the Gold Tip site lists ONLY the brass inserts fo...

removing fletching

What do you recommend for removing the fletching from bolts? I have seen that Saunders makes a device that uses a blade to slide down the shaft and remove the fletch. Has anybody here used this device? Is this device any good? Does anybody have a better option/method for removing fletching for repla...

Inserts

Pretty mundane question: After losing some nocks, I have decided to buy carbon shafts and fletch and place the inserts myself. I have perused the archives and the vendor sites and have settled on the following as my first attempt: 1. 20" carbon shafts 2. duravanes - 5", straight w 4 degree...

Sigh - another user name and password to manage  Okay - the registration process was painless enough. Here is a picture of the jig: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g15/teex_photos/Monopod.jpg I made the jig in about an hour using only hand tools - drill, file, hacksaw, and tap - I was more i...
