Re: How much time in the stand/blind?

Being retired, I hunt every single day unless it's an a all day downpour or snowstorm I can't get through. I don't wake up early to hunt very often before the rut so am out from about 8-9 in the mornings until dark. During the rut or starting the end of October, I am out as it's getting light until ...

Re: I wish that we could check our trigger bolts without removing the stock...

If it keeps coming loose you probably aren't tightening the fasteners enough. Tighten them more and use blue or green loctite. Mine have never come loose on the BD400 and the stock bolts were loctited on by the factory. I mention this only because seems like every few days I read in a forum somewhe...

Re: To pee or not to pee

I pee in all my mock scrapes and get tons of pictures from them. If I am in a treestand, I just let fly but not aimed upwind.... I have had both deer and elk walk under my stand shortly after peeing and show no indication of alarm. I do refrain from eating a lot of meat or spicy food during the seas...

I wish that we could check our trigger bolts without removing the stock...

I hate to pull off my stock just to check the screws because my stock bolts get loctite too. Anyone drilled the stock to allow access to the trigger box bolts on the bottom and is it even possible on a Bulldog? Seems like being able to easily put a wrench on them would eliminate a lot of the mysteri...

Re: Swhacker 150 crossbow broadhead

I have been using 125 grain Swackers for 5 years, not sure my kill count but at least 7 or 8. Never have double banded or had a head open prematurely out of a Mission MXB400, Micro 355, BD400, or Ravin R9. My favorite thing about them is that you can practice a few shots with the actual head that wi...

Re: 20" bolts from a grizzly?

They work great out of my BD400, noticably more accurate even at 40yds. For the Bulldog 400 there is plenty of room under the stirrup to go even longer if you want, not sure how much shorter the rail on your bow is. Sticking out the front doesn't even seem like much of an issue if you also hunt with...

Re: Excalibur taking a beating.

In the past couple years I have owned 2 Excaliburs, a Micro 355 and a BD400. Both had limbs replaced, I sold the Micro without even shooting the new limbs. The BD400 had a huge splinter under the Airbrakes and I sent the entire bow back for a 'going over'. I love recurves but am still aware that the...

Re: Recommend Me A Reliable 100gr Expandable

Another Swacker user here. They have shot exactly with my field tips in 4 different bows and I shoot the actual hunting heads at my 18:1 target all summer long shrink tubed shut. I wouldn't ever hunt with a broadhead that I have not shot at targets, and I mean shooting the actual head that will be o...

Re: Carrying a wallet while hunting

Good advice. I hate having anything in my back pockets and already have plenty of stuff in other pockets so mine either stays in the truck or in a plastic bag in my pack. Up here the F&G manual actually says that an electronic copy of your license is OK but you need a tag in your possesion for y...

Re: opening day blues

It's not too warm up here in Vermont now but a few weeks ago we got a bunch of hot weather. I checked my cameras last week and on two 85 degree days there were pictures of 3 different bucks in daylight and one big 11 point on two different cameras feeding at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. About half of...

Re: Totally unexpected

Curious about what the set up was, crossbow, arrow, and total weight including point. If he hit the knuckle of the scapula on the near side it could have deflected the head enough to snap it off so no more penetration. Also he could have hit high through the top of the scapula into the spine and the...

Re: YAY OR NAY ON AIRBRAKES FOR THE A420TD

I tried my BD400 with and without the airbrakes or dissipate bars, whatever they're called and honestly could hear any difference. My bow has the new limbs so getting closer to a 420, at least they are a lot hotter than the originals. I weighed them and they're close to half a pound so that's signif...

Re: My buddy called me w scope trouble.

I think if you need to shim a scope up you should put the spacers under the base not the rings. We lap in the rings with a precision metal rod to make sure they are perfectly even on high end rifle scopes so they don't slip or damage the scope. I have seen plastic tape inside the rings on some Walma...

Re: restringing matrix

I made my first one out of 1100 paracord or something like that. A couple knots the right size to fit over your limb tips and leave room for the string to come through and you are in business. You are only pulling the limbs back a few inches so length is not something critical. I used it exclusively...

Re: Spitfire NAP Magnum 170 Grain

I bought some like yours a few years ago to use in my 400fps bow with some light arrows. First shot into my brand new 18:1 target to make sure the band's would hold broke off a couple of the blades. I think I can find them, minus the broken blades and would send them to you for the price of shipping...
