Re: Shooting Distance

I'm not aiming at the shoulder nor hunting bison, besides my tractor tire shot with heavy weights 500gr were beat by the 350gr at 20yds, I won't shoot over 40yds anyway and I hit what I aim at. Wes, I looked up your tractor tire post and that was not exactly an "apples to apples" test of ...

Re: Shooting Distance

Here is a simplified chart showing how long it will take an arrow to travel a given distance. This assumes it does not slow down during flight - but can be used for comparisons between different initial velocities. The times are in seconds. Anyone have any ideas on how long it takes from trigger pul...

Re: Shooting Distance

I can tell you this at 40yards my 350gr stick will pass thru the same animal as your 600gr stick only quicker, so I don't really know where your going with this or what your try to say. One should shoot the distance one knows they can take the game with quickly, if unsure let it go another day. Yup...

Re: Shooting Distance

xcal You are right and it is right. But physics dictates that the force applied in a specific direction is what equates to penetration, not KE. KE is simply a measure of all available energy at a given point of arrow flight, some of which goes into noise, vibration, rotation, flexion, and momentum ....

Re: Shooting Distance

I shot 17 deer since i have been hunting with a xbow were allow 4 a year the farthest shot i took was 35 yards it was relaxed and looking away from me. The average shot i took was 20 yards or less i feel its not ethical to take a shot over 40 yards , Not asking the ethics question.....See original ...

Re: Shooting Distance

I think shooting long distances for practice is great for tuning, and building your confidence in your equipment, and ability. I would not take shots on game past 40 yards though due to lost K.E. and the possibility of a bad hit. Injuring an animal without recovering it makes me sick! I want my sho...

Re: Broadheads for moose

My all round favorite is the Slick Trick 175 gr. crossbow magnum. Also like the NAP 125 gr. Hellrazor xbow. This is a cut on contact and went right through a moose. Many think a COC head is best for tough skinned game like moose or elk. The tip was deformed but that is cheap for a freezer full of m...

Re: Shooting Distance

Haven't done it or tried it. 35 is about the max I think. I shoot at 40 and 50 and the bow is deadly accurate - as everyone on here knows so that is not an issue. Noise at 40 would be an issue......but........just talking here........at 60 or 70 or 80, a heavy arrow would have plenty of momentum to ...

Re: Broadheads for moose

I shot a bison last year with my Vortex and got the BH completely through the animal 3 out of 3 times, and got a complete arrow pass through on 1 shot (31, 18 and 25 yds). The arrow was an Easton FMJ Bolt with brass inserts, 2" Blazer vanes, and was tipped with a 100 gr G5 Montec CS. Total weig...

Re: Ghost blinds

My runner blind is not hard to carry it has a shoulder strap and isnt too heavy I think the predator (the taller model) may have an optional back pack. For me I hate being in a pop up style ground blind due to restricted visibility this blind hides me and I can see all directions.. CHECK OUT THE WE...

Re: Ghost blinds

I too have been looking at this for a few years. A few reviews I saw dinged it because it moved in the wind. Is that something you guys have seen? Does that seem like a negative?

One more question. How heavy and easy to transport is it in real life with all your other hunting gear?
