Re: Archery deer season is coming soon

Our season opens Tuesday morning (the 15th). Lots of leaves and vegetation everywhere. Sunday, I cleared out some shooting lanes at one of my stands. It was humid and I'm sure I left lots of my scent. Hopefully, the deer will have forgotten about my disturbance before I sneak into my stand Tuesday m...

Re: A Cool Tip

I just range-find the 3 or 4 spots where I'm likely to get a shot and keep those in mind. Like LBJ I have also driven stakes into the ground to mark a certain distance. You need to do something or you will probably end up regretting not doing it.

Re: 30 more days

Two weeks from today for us. Current forecast is for low of 58 high of 80. If it doesn't get cooler I'll hunt the morning and go fishing that afternoon. It's a long season (until Jan. 15) and we seem to have plenty of deer. I don't need to over do it early.

How often do you practice?

Our archery season starts September 15. Tomorrow I'll go up to our farm to begin to get ready. I'll clear brush around stands, re-install seats where needed and trim the limbs that have grown in the way in the spring and summer. At some point I'll get my crossbow and target out and take some shots a...

Re: Two happy Brothers

Good for you! In circumstances like that, it feels really good to give. A friend told me that a 12 year old kid he took deer hunting with a rifle for the first time last year, is interested in crossbow hunting. I told him he could use my Axiom. If this works out, I'll have to buy whatever they call ...

Re: O/T: Reflection on Life:

I think we'll all be much happier in a couple of months when the weather gets cooler and we can get into our stands and try to harvest a deer. We'll be curious to read about what each other is experiencing in the field and we won't waste our time looking for faults because we will just be a bunch of...

Re: Is this REALLY a crossbow???

This conversation happened when compound bows came out and still is happening. It probably also happened in medieval times when they made the first crossbow by some umpity long archer who didn't like change. Remember only six months ago the very guys were still trying to take scopes away from the c...

Re: Is this REALLY a crossbow???

I'm not in favor of stopping research and progress but we could end up with a lot of protests from vertical archers. It would be hard to call this thing a primitive weapon. I congratulate them for developing new technology that seems to work well, but this seems to blur the line between a crossbow a...

Re: Lighted nocks

I've only used lumenoks so I don't know if anything is better. That said, the lumenoks have worked flawlessly for me and have added to my crossbow hunting experience. Watching them zip toward a deer, disappear at impact, then seeing the glowing arrow sticking out of the ground after the deer runs of...

I can say with pride my niece last year was part of a cadet contingent there to honour the 359 Canadians whom lost their lives . https://i.postimg.cc/85vyJc9G/jess-2.jpg You should be extremely proud of her!! Please tell her "Thanks" from one of the guys in the Lower 4...

D Day

Today is June 6 and since the majority of the people on this forum or either US or Canadian I want to acknowledge the tremendous thing they did (along with Britain) at Normandy on that day 76 years ago. In the US, the feats of our forces at Omaha Beach are legendary and for good cause. We also need ...

Fawn encounter

My wife and I drove up to the town near our farm last Saturday to pick up the meat of a hog we had butchered and bring it back to our suburban home. For the trip back, I decided to take a shortcut over a paved county road. As we neared a hilltop a doe and tiny fawn (tiny as in probably born that mor...

Re: Anyone use Ozonics??

I wash my camo without detergent (who cares if the blood stains don't come out) and throw in a little baking soda. Our washer has a double rinse cycle and I use that. We have a pole for hanging plants outside that I use to air dry my hunting clothes. That's as far as I go.

If they had to ban a crossbow, it looks like they picked the right one! (just kidding of course)
