Re: Once in a lifetime weekend on Nip

Wow! Nice catch! I'm envious! I haven't ice fished on hard or soft water for probably 20 years! Is the first one a burbot? I've never seen one that wasn't preserved as a specimen

2024 Season

So what all are you guys doing to do differently next year and how was your year? Mine was terrible! I had pretty much all days too warm for more than 5 does come out and very few bucks. I had only a couple of deer coming out during legal hours. My kill plot planting sucked!

Re: How cold is too cold

In my experience, in general at -23°C is when mechanical devices start to operate different and break for no apparent reason aside from prolonged exposure to the cold. Not to say that things won't break in warmer or colder temps. But around work I start to see a significant uptick in breakages belo...

Re: Excalibur open sights

Thanks for the insight Don . That is a shame though their was a great set of guys here and it is hard to find the quality of people that called this forum home in the past. The ones that remain are still great but we have lost so many for no good reason. Absolutely! It's a crying shame! When we go ...

Re: Excalibur open sights

Thanks Gerald. I have spoken to him in the past hes a throughly decent old school fellow. Whats happened to this forum there use to be so many people and posts? I expect farsebook have taken many away. Don't use it myself. That is a very good question the forum used to be much more active I really ...

Re: OT - Advice on my new shotgun for deer or ....

Thing about your situation. The SBE excels as a goose and turkey gun. I've had one for well over 20 years. It gets beat up, muddy and abused but it keeps working with usually one cleaning a year. Mine is drilled and tapped for a scope but I can't imagine putting a scope and removing it for deer. But...

Re: OT - Advice on my new shotgun for deer or ....

In slug guns I've had an SBE, M2 (20 gauge), Mossberg (bolt), Browning Silver and a Savage 220. The Savage has survived the nit picking. It has everything needed to kill deer to 200 yards and does it well. All the others had things I didn't like about them that nagged at me until I traded or sold th...

Re: Scope recommendations again....

The Vortex scope that you looked through will have better glass than any Hawke or any crossbow company scope. The single biggest issue with it is that the light doesn’t dim down far enough for people who have any cataracts developing. Yes, the lines are very close together but the glass is extremely...

Re: What type of critter is this?????

With it eye sockets pointing forward (or are they?)and huge canines, it almost has to be a predator. The fact that we can’t see how big the skull and canines may be throwing us off. So if it’s kinda small, could be an Opossum. But I think Matt is right

Re: Heated Vests

I bought an Ewool vest and 2 batteries. I couldn’t be happier. Batteries are flat and relatively thin and sit in the small of the back which creates a very minor annoyance but that’s the only complaint. It heats your whole torso as well as your neck. If you buy one, keep in mind that you want it to ...
