Multi day first ice
Sunday at 9 am my nephew and I headed north to find fishable ice and maybe if real lucky something thick enough for the snowmobile. First stop was the cottage to pickup all the gear. Next stop was the Comfort Inn in Kirkland Lake where we spent the evening going over and making adjustments to gear. ...

Griswald Lives - Merry Xmas to the Excal community
Went out with my daughters, son in law, granddaughter, wife and the hound and cut our tree. Sadly we had a thaw and lost virtually all our snow in the last 2 days - pics always look better with snow. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53387061870_966b29c0ec_h.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535...

Re: How do you keep your feet warm?
Muck Artic Pro boots and Alpaca wool socks. The Alpaca is softer and significantly warmer than even the best merino. Harder to find the Alpaca as none of the chain stores carry it and pricey as well. I get mine from a local who has a booth at our fall fair every year - although this year i got them ...

Re: Best part isn't the deer!
Congrats on a nice one. I like that hunting spot. Have you used that spot before? First year at that spot. Owned the property for 15 years and discovered it this year while reviewing satellite images. It is a small (like 20 yards by 50 yards) slightly elevated piece of land in the middle of a nasty...

Best part isn't the deer!
Managed to bug off work early on Thursday and headed to the camp for some climber time. Got to the spot about 230 pm and was settled into the climber at 2:45 pm. Photo below is the tree and climber. When in position the climber is tight to the first dead branch on the left side of the trunk putting ...

Re: Kudos to West Grey Police
Just got home with the RTV on the float. All the serial/VIN numbers have been removed and it has been painted mat black LOL. I am OCD about maintenance records which was helpful in proving it was mine and getting it released. Over the phone i was able to tell cops make, model and size/profile of the...

Kudos to West Grey Police
So had an unexpected break in my afternoon schedule today and was in the vicinity of our camp so thought i would shoot in and do some routine scouting. Pulled up to the gate and it was locked and secure as per normal but about 100 yards up the driveway i could see what looked like a log lying on the...

Re: Rarest Fish i have ever caught
Amazing that you got a pike that size through the hole without your line cut! Nice mount! Nearly took all my line 6 times. I was using a Shimano ultralight 500 series Sedona spinning reel and only had 50 yards of line on it. I can hardly believe everything held together. The Mojo ultralig...

Rarest Fish i have ever caught
Got my Abitibi northern pike mount back. Caught last April through the ice on a 28 inch St. Croix Mojo Ice ultralight rod, 6 lb test, no leader. 1/4 oz jig head tipped with a pinhead minnow. 38.5 inches and 16 lbs. Was hemming and hawing about getting a mount made but the unique lack of markings and...

Assasin Extreme Initial Thoughts
About a week or two ago i gave in and picked up an Assasin Extreme. Two words - "Love it." Best factory trigger on any Excal i have owned to date (this is number 7). Crisp, clean and light. Equipped with the Overwatch Scope - Best factory optic so far as well. This may be the first Excal s...
