Re: Cancelling a Hunt - Bummed...

This thread started as a story about a canceled hunt with a legitimate political component. It seems to be deteriorating to a mudball fest with no hunting component. I enjoy a good political argument (I have had many of them), but I can't think of anything that would ruin an informative and entertai...

Re: Two man Ladder stand

Instead of burlap, you might want to consider a camouflage tarp to hang from your shooting rail. You can buy a grommet kit at Walmart to add grommets to hang it more securely. A tarp is more durable and will block some wind and rain. I bought mine at Menards but have seen them at other stores as wel...

Re: Ram cat broad heads

I read the user reports on Cabela's about Ram Cat broadheads and saw quite a few comments about blades coming loose and even falling out. Can anyone comment on what they are talking about? There was mention of a tiny allen wrench and need for frequent tightening. There was also reference to some kin...

Re: Blood Trail

Any good broadhead will kill effectively if you make a good hit, so just pick one and practice with it to become confident. If you can't get tight groups at 30 yards (unlikely to happen) try another head. A deer hit through the lungs can only live a maximum of 60 seconds, so they can only run so far...

Re: Ram cat broad heads

I saw in Cabela's catalogue that they are offering a single bevel edge version in 100 gr. only. Theoretically, single bevel (if aligned with the twist of the fletching), causes the blade to spin as it cuts, therefore cutting more tissue, blood vessels, etc. If they offered a 125 gr. I would be a buy...

Re: Budget: Buy best crossbow and slowly purchase accessorie

The only crossbow I have ever shot is an Axiom with the smf rail. I did add a Danny Miller Flemish string, but my scope, trigger and quiver are all Excalibur. I don't know what other posters are talking about when they complain about original equipment scopes and triggers or when they say aluminum r...

Re: outdoor life micro test

I haven't seen the Outdoor Life review on the Micro, but Field & Stream also tested some crossbows including the Micro in their August 2015 edition and they clocked it at 301 fps. They state that they were shooting 477 gr. arrows which may explain the low speed. The Cabelas Equalizer (really an ...

Re: MO. Weather

I'm sick of mowing. Not only do I have to mow the grass at my house here in town every 5-6 days, I need to mow at the farm (85 miles away) every week to 10 days. I don't want the place to look like its abandoned so I keep it mowed. The constant very heavy rain has severely damaged our corn crop and ...

I already have an electric fence transformer so I think I will dust it off and get the necessary accessories and start plugging it in at night. I appreciate all of the thoughtful suggestions. It's a pleasure communicating with the people on this forum.

Re: Broadhead for Moose

Slick trick's literature suggests that less cutting surface (2 blade heads, 1" multi blade heads) add to better penetration on larger game. That said, with a 405 I would bet you could blow a 6 bladed mechanical through an elephant. We all already know this, but, if you use any head you have pro...

Re: Deer and tomatoes

A venison cheeseburger with a slice of heirloom tomato does sound good but I live in an incorporated area and I don't think you can even legally shoot a crossbow outdoors.

Deer and tomatoes

Does anyone have a good way to keep deer from destroying my tomato garden? These are suburban deer and they have been raiding my tomato patch and eating both the tomatoes and the plants. They have eaten approx. 40-50 of the larger (ready to ripen) tomatoes on my plants in the last few nights. I have...

Re: which broad heads for Axiom

I shoot an Axiom too and have had good results with both boltcutters and slick trick xbow tricks. For whitetails you can probably shoot anything you want and not worry about penetration. 300 ft. per second is not state of the art but it is still fast. Bear in mind that Native American longbows had d...

Re: Microed a MI Monster!

Tremendous bird! Some day maybe I'll have the nerve to hunt spring turkeys with my crossbow. It's tough enough with a shotgun! By the way, I love your slogan at the bottom of your post. I'm a meat hunter too and your bird will provide a lot of meat!

Re: Excalibur Micro takes its first turkey...

I have never brined anything but I am going to have to learn how. I see references to brining, and instructions on how to do it, around Thanksgiving every year. Everything I have read says it makes the best, most juicy turkey. I intend to give it a try. I know that nobody on this forum does this, bu...
