Never too much detail in the personal enjoyment of the adventure for me.
Keep up the good work Nog.

Re: Recovery Rates With Crossbow
98 %.
Never shot a deer I have not killed. Never killed a deer I have not found (except one darn it).
A 50% recovery rate is unacceptable. Drop those guys.

Re: Do-It-Yourself Butcher???
Since my favourite butcher went out of business a few years ago, I've tried a bunch of others. None were to my satisfaction, so, I do it myself now. De-boning, cutting and packaging a deer by myself takes pretty much a day. Sausage and ground extra time. Got a grinder and sausage stuffer to boot. I ...

Re: New Huntress
This is going to be exciting!
There is so much adventure when a new hunter develops a love for the outdoors and the chase. Do post of your exploits, with deer or not. It's all part of the process.
PS. You chose a good bow. And a good son.

Re: Son's First Deer - Proud Dad!
Way to go team!!! Congratulations to both of you. I remember seeing past posts of you with deer you harvested and the kid(s) at your side. What a natural turn around to have your son with his finger on the trigger and taking a textbook shot. This is what we live for. Passing on family values. Enjoy ...

A sensitive treatment of a very touchy issue for the vagans.

Way to go Rick, and Frank. What a day.
It looks like you've settled into your piece of paradise pretty well, and what a piece it is! Cool to see those drone shots. Makes me drool.
Keep up the good work.

Re: Journaling
As one day blends into another, I found it an interesting way to put a defining memory on paper. I've kept game records since 1974, starting with 3-ring binders and pertinent notes. These have evolved into the current practice of narrative on one side and accompanying photos or drawings on the other...

Fantastic to hear about this. You two are amazing ambassadors for all things outdoorsy. You're walking the talk. Kudos.
I'm curious about all those hot coals. Were you going to fire walk? Did you chicken out?

That's an awful short post for such a fantastic adventure. Hardly any pictures either. How bout you think it over for a couple days and re-post a much longer version with way more pics.
Until then, what an awesome hunt. Congratulations.
