Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

So, I went out and did a little spinning and shooting tonight. Not ready to mark cock vanes yet. Just getting a feel for it. First checked if everything was tight. I shot the first vane twice to confirm I was shooting in the same hole. I shot 8 arrows on each vane (24 shots). I shot the last vane tw...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

FYI, buying Zombies will not necessarily achieve the results you seek. The factory assembled arrows are not spine indexed. Even if they were or even if someone locates the spine on a shaft that you assembled yourself, all you have is a dynamically indexed arrow. Static spine is a different story. I...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

Yes. I’ve got it bad. Might be a mixture of cabin fever and spring fever but crossbows have been pretty consuming for me. They are pretty fascinating. A mixture of art and science. I never got too worked up about guns. Just grab them out of the safe and go. I definitely like archery better.

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

I can’t help it. I’m obsessed. I ordered 6 zombie slayers from wyvern so that I can find zero. Then I can index my Diablos to that. I just hope they can get here by the weekend.

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

Thanks. I do feel I am on the right track. I am using Excalibur 150 grain field tips. I have this weekend off (rare) and the weather will be nice. I will be spending several pleasant hours at my bench (tractor) shooting, spinning, marking, and sorting arrows. Now that I understand what is going on, ...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

I’ll work on weighing and indexing my arrows. If anything, sorting a selection of arrows/cock vanes that fly the same will make me feel like I can sight the bow in as close as possible. I was just frustrated that I could’t feel confident making adjustments to my turrets was doing anything when I was...

Re: Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

Thanks for the suggestions. I will first find the best cock vane that shoots closest to center and mark it. Then I will sort arrows high and low. I’ll mark them and separate them into groups. Excellent ideas! I’ll also try to relax and realize that I need hunting accuracy not marksmanship accuracy. ...

Sighting in Diablos off a bench (frustrating)

So I finally set up a bench in the snow because I needed to test my scope against my son’s scope to see if it was bad. Sure enough, I had a bad scope (a new one is on its way-thanks Dawn). I was using the same arrow/cock feather for the test and got same hole accuracy every shot. I was very pleased ...

Re: Sapphire 325 (forward riser)

So, I found out that I have a defective scope. I put one of the boys scopes (Dead Zone) on my bow and had same hole accuracy off a bench. (My scope had 3 inch groups.). I’ll RMA it and get another Dead Zone. I think it’s a decent little scope, not interested in a different one. (Besides, I’m getting...

Re: Mushy dead zone scope

So today, I set up a bench. Am using 30 yard zero. Used same arrow, same cock feather. I shot more than 30 times trying to give my scope a chance. 3 inch groups were the best it would do. Never holding zero more than 2 shots. When I adjusted a turret, I never knew where it would go. I then swapped s...

Re: Mushy dead zone scope

You all are right. I just got in from shooting my sons alongside mine and mine is just not holding zero. I will swap scopes tomorrow to comfirm and then do an RMA. Spring bear season is only a few weeks away. Still not bashing the Dead Zone. I just got a bad one. I don’t think i’ll upgrade scopes. I...

Re: Mushy dead zone scope

I sprayed a little lithium grease onto the turrets and let it soak down into them. (Figured I’d try it since I am about ready to give up on it.) The dials click noticably better and it is shooting better today. (Also, when I want to go 1 click left, I’m going 2 clicks left and one right.) Tighter gr...

Re: Mushy dead zone scope

I knew I was having accuracy issues from the get- go but love the bow and wanted to wait till the snow melted to set up a bench to really evaluate the scope (I am shooting kneeling on the driveway). I would blame poor groups on myself or the arrows. When my zero was (frequently) off, I would figure ...

Mushy dead zone scope

I bought 3 Excaliburs for myself and my 2 sons (Sapphire and 2 Grizzly’s). All 3 have Dead Zone scopes. The boys’ scopes work great, tight groups, hold zero, crisp turret clicks. Mine, however, feels “mushy”. Indistinct clicks (sometimes no clicks), wider groups and doesn’t hold zero like the other ...

Re: Sapphire 325 (forward riser)

Those Grizzly’s shoot great. Very accurate. My bow is noticably quieter with the Air Brakes but not as accurate. All 3 of our bows have Dead Zone scopes. The boys’ scopes work much better than mine. My turret adjustments are mushy and sometimes there is no “click”. Mine doesn’t have as tight of grou...
