Re: OT but very interesting
One of our dogs gets lucky and kills a squirrel in the yard occasionally. I should register them as non-native predatory mammals. :) Actually they are getting old and its been quite a while since they have taken a squirrel. Good article. My wife majored in wildlife ecology and she hates cats for thi...

Great reading and pictures.
Questions:
What is scope on rifle on third picture, and what is rifle in fourth picture?

Great deer and cool story.

A 50% recovery rate is unacceptable. Drop those guys.
Totally agree, that among other drama you deal with in a bigger lease wore too thin after four seasons.

After first two sentences thought you were going to say you got a ticket.
Doesn't seem like an old injury that was healed would cause antlers to shed early unless there was an infection or something.
Possible they broke off while fighting?

Recovery Rates With Crossbow
Im sure that the majority of us here want to be ethical. Don't mean to be personal, but curious as to average recovery rates with crossbows. I know this subject gets kicked around occasionally. On the big club I used to hunt in, archery season recovery seemed to averaged about 1 of 2. I quit taking ...

Slow-learner Six Point
Was lucky enough to take a decent 9 point. Small by you guy's standards, but a good Florida deer none the less. A small young looking 6 pt came out and the 9 pt came out a little later following the 6 pt. I shot the 9 pt and it went down. The 6 pt ran off then came back a couple of minutes later and...

Re: Pets that watch tv
None of our dogs have ever really watched TV, but if I was watching Predator Nation or any show in which they were doing a rabbit, mouse, or puppy distress type of call my old cur would get all jumpy and run over and start looking all around behind the TV.

Re: Do-It-Yourself Butcher???
I got tired of the shenanigans with the meat guys. Not getting back same deer, getting back less than i brought in, not doing it the way I wanted, or just messing it up. Ordered a 1 horse grinder and haven't looked back. Go on website for Indiana butcher supply. Look at what they have and call to ta...

Re: Cull Buck??
I agree with what has been said. 1.5 or possibly 2.5. Body size, filled out body, saggy belly if really old (saggy belly is indication that I am old), toughness of skin, other indicators mentioned, teeth are best indicator. These things being said, there are exceptions to the physical indicators. A ...
