Re: Scent Lock Clothing ??
I have a set, but won't buy another. It is well built, which was the primary reason for buying it. But the set I have also picks up burrs from the grass and such like a moth to a streetlight. They are so bad that I won't but another set. You can get some very well built great camo for a lot less. Th...

Re: Which Broadhead with aluminum inserts?
I shoot the stock arrows with aluminum inserts every time I hunt. I shoot 100 grain expanding heads in a number of brands. Most all of them have worked great. It can be a bit tricky to get 100 grain fixed blade heads to fly great on stock FireBolts. Some have done it, but I haven't had any luck at i...

Re: Help with arrow speed
Honestly I ignored te FPS crap. I started sighting in at 20 yrds at a perfect zero with the scope set at about 330fps on the scope. Then I used the mildots out to 50yrds. If I shoot high I just turn the fps on the scope higher until its in. Then I recheck 20yrds-50yrds. I use a large Harris Bi-pod ...

Whack! Doe down.
Today was the opening day for the antlerless only early season in Northern Virginia. I found myself up a tree nice and early. It was warm. I was sweating by the time I got up the tree. I saw nothing but a couple squirrels for the first hour. About 6:55am I noticed a deer about 35 yards away. It ende...

Re: Firebolt shattered
I've broken two FireBolts. In both cases it was from hitting something hard. I snapped one in three pieces and only the fletching was holding the pieces together. It bounced off a sapling and a rock. Another snapped when a doe fell on it. It was burried to the fletching in her neck bone. I've found ...

Re: VA deer sightings???
Rich,
I drove around Loudoun County, VA right before dusk today and saw very few deer. I probably saw a dozen total, but for the ground I covered I would normally see fourty. I'm glad to know that it isn't just me. I began to wonder if the hard winter may have taken its toll.

Scorpion XP replacement blades problem
I've used Scorpion XP broadheads (among many others) for the past four season with great luck. I can occasionally get some good deals on them. I picked up some packs of replacement blade but have ran into an issue. If you look at any photo of the Scorpion XPs available today, the cut on contact blad...

7 days till doe season!
Next Saturday I'll be able to go out and try to fill a tag with my Excalibur in Northern Virginia's early antlerless season. It slipped up on me quick this summer. I've been flinging arrows with my vertical bow for over a month now but just today brought out my ExoMax. After 10 months sitting strung...

Re: Whats the best Archery Rangefinder?
I have a Leupold RX-II. It it a 400 yard model and comes with the True Ballistic Range function that comes handy when hunting from a tree stand or in hilly terrain (or both in my case). I think it is discontinued now and has been replaced with the RX-750. You can still get the RX-II on eBay for $199...

Crossbows and Verticals
I was thumbing through the harvest results in Virginia for last season and noticed that crossbows aren't having near the impact on the herd that most of the anti-crossbow groups suggest. For 2009 in Virginia, vertical bows took 7% of the statewide harvest. Crossbows took 4%. The season is from Septe...

Welcome to the club.
I wonder if this has ever happened in a hunting situation? That would be extra embarrassing.

Re: What kind of tree is this?
We had a tornado within a quarter mile a couple weeks ago. That could explain some of them on the ground. It has also been quite dry. Most of my yard is brown. The tree is in a low area, so it should be getting enough water. Occasionally too much could be an issue. I just found it odd because I have...

Re: What kind of tree is this?
Anyway, that tree is a persimmon. Wish it was on my hunting property. Me too. Its within bow range of my porch. I've lived here 5 years and never noticed it till I had the round-up out killing poison oak. Now I know why I have frequently seen deer standing in that area. :) Maybe the climate here ju...
