Re: Game changers for hunting

I never bowhunt without a facemask. The lightest one I have isn't too bad in early season hot weather. I usually take my hat off and just wear it when it's really hot. Deer, squirrels, owls etc. have looked right at me without alarm.

Re: Ideas for tree stand camo

It wouldn't work with your climber, but I zip tie camo tarps over the tubular pipe insulation I put on the shooting rails of my tripod stands. I have to double the tarps over to cut the downward drop length down, and I add grommets to make them fit well. From the ground (the deer's view), 2/3 - 3/4 ...

Re: How many of you are ready to roll?

I spent the day yesterday cutting the brush that blocked access to my two tripod stands, then cleared up some shooting lanes, installed pipe insulation on the shooting rails then zip tied the camo tarps (that hide about 3/4 of the deer's view) to the shooting rails. I also put the seat back into one...

We had some friends over yesterday for "dinner and a movie" (Airplane - absolutely hilarious). Dessert was blackberry pie and ice cream.

Re: Opening day success (Crossbow in gun season)

Great story with a happy ending! I really enjoy forum members hunting stories and I look forward to reading many more of them now that hunting seasons are finally starting. Your story reminded me of something I did a long time ago. I had a late Friday night softball game during spring turkey season ...

Re: It's about time...

Our season opens 9/15 which is a week from this coming Wednesday. We ate the last of this past season's backstrap fillets last week but we still have a few pounds of ground venison. We have had a tremendous tomato crop this year and I have been slicing and freezing the ones we don't eat or give away...

Re: Hunting supplies and parts

The ammo shortage is caused by irrational panic hoarding. I'm old enough to have seen it several times before. A few people buy up much more than they need and the average guy who buys a couple of boxes a year is out of luck. The ammo manufacturers love this cycle. It's not here stay, things will d...

Re: 7mm-08

A few years ago I was at a charity event and they were raffling off some guns by selling half of a playing card and putting the other half into a bowl to be drawn for a winner. My card was drawn and I had my choice of a .270 Winchester without a scope or a Savage 6.5 Creedmoor with a cheap Weaver on...

I don't need one but that thing sure looks well designed and a good value at the price. I don't blame you for ordering one. If they're as good as they look, they might run out of them.

Re: Farmland

My point with this post is that we as hunters need access to land to pursue our sport and when so few people control so much land, it poses a threat to the future of hunting that is as bad or worse than anything else. One man owning 2.2 million acres and several others owning hundred thousands to a ...

Farmland

We've all seen statistics about how wealth is being concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer people. The same thing is happening quietly with farmland. I don't see how this could be a good thing. Most of these people are probably acting responsibly but a few greedy bad actors could do a lot of h...

Re: Broadhead Sharpening - What I'm doing

I like all of my knives and broadheads to be sharp. Like LBJ, back when I hunted with a recurve longbow I used to shoot Zwickey Black Diamonds and Black Diamond Deltas and I sharpened them with a small file (I don't remember if it was bastard or just s.o.b.) but they were plenty sharp. Today I have ...
