Re: Bow tag
Ontario is "crossbow friendly" - Deer season opens for bows/crossbows on the 1st of October and essentially runs until December 31st. There is a one or two week gun/shotgun season (depending on the area) in the beginning of November and a one week muzzle loading season the first or second ...

Re: Factory Firebolts with Lumenoks...
I had a couple of dry fires - with just plain old flat nocks as well. Switched everything over to moon nocks three years back and have had zero problems since. Yes, I have that incredible burdensome task of making sure the cock feather is actually pointed down into the shooting rail, but I somehow o...

Re: Bolt Weight?
Too many only want speed and kinetic energy. That may make a huge difference with a center fire rifle, maybe not so much with a bow - either vertical or horizontal. A slower, heavier bolt (arrow) will have a greater "slug force" due to it's momentum, than a faster/lighter arrow - that tran...

Re: Feedr time?
I have used timed broadcast feeders off and on for a few years now. The deer didn't seem to mind them one way or the other - if corn/seeds were on the ground they would stop by (at their convenience) but it certainly didn't entice them to be there when it went off. On the other hand, the bluejays an...

Re: Diablo Arrow sighting in
Pick your crappiest field point, screw it into the "wild" bolt, load her up and fire it at the heavens. Consider it an offering to the great crossbow God - it will help keep all other bolts flying true even if you cock the string a little off  My (backyard) range backs onto a farm fie...

Re: Poor results - NAP Bloodrunner II's - amended
Well, I was certain I solved the issue after taking a look at my bow. Bear with me for a moment here. It was really bugging me trying to figure how they could "launch" so badly - I shoot arrows with an extreme 24% FOC - was thinking if anything they should have been ploughing dirt, not hea...

Re: lebarons
The attitude at Lebaron's has gone steadily down hill over the past number of years. Now the Hunting section of their stores is about the size of public washroom. Also, if you shop around, their prices are not all that great either. I did see their ad and yes, it does state that Excalibur, Canada Go...

Re: Just Curious
56 bucks a half dozen right from Black Eagle = $112 (plus shipping) for a dozen
On par with my favourite supplier, Lancaster Archery, who sells them for $7.50 each (so 90 bucks for a dozen).
So I would say that's the "going rate".

Re: Poor results - NAP Bloodrunner II's
Timely for you to mention that. I was just looking at the package. On the back, way down at the bottom, in red letters no less (with two **'s to boot) it states - not recommended for all crossbows. So I will place the Vixen II in the "not recommended" category. With a bit of luck I will fi...

Poor results - NAP Bloodrunner II's
I have been looking for a new broadhead. For a good number of years my go to "mechanical" has been the G5 Tekan II - no longer made and I have used up all but my two remaining heads. They hit exactly where my field points hit - perfect. Also been shooting Rage II's - was using them with my...

Re: First sit in the stand...or not
Everyone has their own rituals and beliefs. Some douse themselves with scent blocker, wear scent blocking clothes, put on the camo make-up and use wind chasing powder. The last two deer I have shot with the crossbow defied all "conventional wisdom". In both cases the wind was wrong, I had ...

Woooooo Hoooooo - 3 weeks from Wednesday. Last year my season ended at 8 am on opening day - while that's nice I hope to stretch it out at least a couple of weeks this year  http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx243/galamb2/20142015bambi_zps05860726.jpg (just have to keep things straight - label...

Re: BRACE HEIGHT FOR MY IBEX
From the question and answer page on the website...
"Your string should sit 1" - 1.5" back from the joint where the riser meets the rail. If your string sits too close to the riser just twist it a few turns and it'll move back to the correct brace height"
