Adding a Picatinny rail
I was looking to remove a bit of weight and height when adding an HHA optimizer. I picked up a foot long or so piece of aluminum picatinny rail and with some time at the mill I came up with the following. You do need the longer hold down spring and are running without the ADF and works easier with t...

Re: Back into Hunting
If you are shooting close to 285 FPS or a bit slower then you would probably want to avoid the Dead Zone scope. The Dead Zone scope has a speed range between 300 FPS and 410 FPS, you would probably be better off to try and find a Vari Zone scope, as it is listed as having a speed range between 250 a...

Re: Loctite
I have used the Loctite 242 for many years on crossbows and scope ring screws. It works well within its limitations as long as you properly degrease first, however, it is a pain to clean up if you later want to disassemble. Recently I came across Vibra Tite VC-3 and have started using it for fastene...

Re: Vixen with Matrix Limbs possible?
Yes, you can mount Matrix limbs on a Vixen, although in order to do so without modifying the rail you will want to start with a Micro riser that only has the single through hole. The next step is to remove the two positioning nubs on the Micro riser then mark and then drill and tap the two new throu...

Re: crank mounting
Steve, I would start by removing the brass piece from the crank and replacing it with a modified button head cap screw. Take a 1" long screw and turn it down on the lathe to engage the hole in the stock and to thread into the crank housing. The 1" long is to give you some extra length to h...

Re: Adjustable Height Cheek Rest
Wheelsquad, Those look like an excellent add on for those that do not want to do a DIY modification to get a proper height cheek rest. The cheek rest height even with the factory option cheek piece is sorely lacking in height. If you add on an Optimizer it makes the height even worse. Great to see o...

Re: Adjustable stock?
Dan, Here are a couple of options on how to adjust the cheekpiece height on the Matrix bows. You should be able to right click on the images and tell it to open in a new tab to see the original images. The Assassin stocks are more like a shell and unfortunately the cheekpiece does not adjust up and ...

Re: scope caps
I had similar problems with the Varizone scope about 10 years ago that I solved by making some adapters that would press onto the scope to allow me to go to a larger Blizzard cap. The Blizzard caps work much better at the bottom of their size range. You could try wrapping the end of the scope bell w...

Re: C2 Crank
You are quite welcome, glad to hear that it is working out better than the original. I made the longer handle by starting with a piece of 1" round stock and cleaning it up a bit and then knurling it on the lathe. I drilled through the center to match the diameter of the shoulder bolt and also o...

Re: Rangefinder selection help
Kevin, Not sure why none of the rangefinder manufacturers have tried to come out with a low magnification version of the much more expensive Burris offering. It should not be too difficult to adapt one of the handheld versions to have windage and elevation adjustments and a picatinny rail mount. You...

Rangefinder selection help
I am trying to find a rangefinder with extended eye relief of an inch or more with a remote button or at least scan mode. I have been thinking about trying to mount up a rangefinder to the bow instead of using a scope for both ranging and to aim on target. Once I find a suitable rangefinder I will n...

Re: Beginner / youth crossbow modifications
Hi5, The red piece that forms the deck is fairly easy to remove, I had thought about flipping it around as there are only 4 screws that hold it in place. That would make it a little less of a jump. I had also thought about making a replacement piece out of kydex plastic, although I was trying to min...

Re: Beginner / youth crossbow modifications
Don, I did try the rope cocker in two spots, one was with the back loop going around the butt stock as they had a series of grooves already there from the factory and I also tried looping it through the cutouts in the bow. The problem is with how they narrowed down the finger guard / rail. They coul...

Beginner / youth crossbow modifications
I have been looking for a low cost entry / target / youth bow for awhile and had seen the Daisy youth crossbow model 4003. I picked one up new for around $50. https://i.postimg.cc/rFKZSdVQ/IMG-20190306-203159200.jpg It has a 29# draw weight, a bullpup trigger setup, and comes with adjustable open si...

Re: How to mount the GoPro
Could always print up a clamp that goes on the front scope bell that you can mount the gopro. Here is one that I drafted in a different thread when I was making one that would add a picatinny rail piece. https://i.postimg.cc/JhgfSFt9/tactzoneclamp4.jpg https://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB3/viewto...
