I have replaced my strings every year and never saw any real wear. I can only imagine that its just luck of the draw and you got a bad serving on your string unless as awshucks said it was damaged. Luckily its not a big deal to reserve. You need a serving too and a spool of serving material. Careful...

Amazing how good they look. That looks very cool. I own an automotive shop and I usually shoot about thirty arrows a day. I am addicted to it. Some days it like 60 arrows and half an hour late!
At 20 yard ya gotta be carefull not to hit your own arrows. Gets expensive.
