The width of the channel that the fletching and shaft travel in is wider at the riser so it does not matter that there is a gap between the riser and the rail. In my limited experience it sounds like it needs more FOC, you have poor broadhead alignment, inconsistent arrow speeds or not enough fletching offset. You can make your own broadhead alignment checking tool with four marbles and a board as per Awshucks. You can increase FOC by shortening your arrow...
