Re: how much can you twist a matrix string?

My current string has been on for 2 years now and has seen well over 1000 shots. I can't tell you for sure how many times I have "tightened" it up - to say it was 10 or 12 times is probably leaving a good half dozen times out. It will continue to stretch a bit as you shoot it and when you ...

Re: New member to EXCALIBUR and the forum

Welcome to the forum. The Phoenix is a very decent bow if you don't need the "latest/greatest". I shoot a Vixen II - just can't see parting with a grand or more for a shiny new model. If you are worried about the slower speed, you can use my trick. Even though I'm barely making 270 fps aft...

Re: 125 gr broadhead suggestions

Have you considered a 25 grain collar behind the broadhead? If you already have the bolts, broadheads etc etc, maybe try adding a collar and see if that does it for you. I shoot extreme FOC (like 24% extreme) and they don't seem to care what the broadhead weight is - but that is with a 110 grain ins...

Re: good scouting camera

Can't really tell you. I use the remote battery hook up - plug her into a 5 amp hour/12 volt battery (get these for 20 bucks - rechargeable with a trickle charger). I put that particular camera out in April to scout the trails - still going strong now (at least as of last weekend over 4 months later...

Re: oak trees

I'm in Eastern Ontario, Kingston area and like you note there is "loads" of Acorns this year.

Likewise, a lot of apples and most have them have dropped already.

Tough go trying to get Bambi to come into a food plot - there is a bumper crop of natural sources out there..

Re: good scouting camera

Here's a shot from my Wildview TK24 set to 6mp. I cut the pic size way way down from the original size of 2.55 MB. Bambi was about 15 yards from where the camera was mounted. http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx243/galamb2/SUNP0059_zpsf3d0f442.jpg Here's the pic at 100% cropped - enough detail for ...

Re: Lining up fletching with broadhead blades

As a new crossbow shooter you are going to shoot a lot, try a lot of different things and ultimately come up with your own "VooDoo" like we all do. Personally, I have never noticed any difference in impact point with either my Excal or my Recurve bow by indexing or failing to index the bro...

Re: Whats the best hunting scope?

This is a short range game. I prefer an NCSTAR D4B reflexive red dot. Shoot with both eyes open. Using the starburst reticle, depending on the speed you are shooting, you get three aim points 8-10 yards apart. And, not being "magnified", usable in area restricted from using "telescopi...

Re: good scouting camera

They are all made in China now. The lowest quality on the market today was "top of the line" 2 years ago. We sell 5 or 6 brands where I work. We get a disproportionate number of Simmons back (estimate about 40%) that don't work from the get go - might be an anomaly or maybe just inferior w...

Re: Various questions for Crossbow hunting

I cock when I get to the stand. According to Excalibur you can leave it cocked all day without issue. I have been shooting moon nocks for about 5 years now - well over 2000 shots (range in my back yard) on the same string with ZERO issues. They shoot perfectly and I have put more than one arrow righ...

Re: Fusion vanes

I have just done a whack of personal testing to try and find the best fletch for my set-up. After firing over 3000 bolts fletched with everything from 2" Fusions to 5" die cut feathers I formed a few opinions. First - at 20 yards or less it doesn't matter at all what I fired. In fact I was...
