Re: Off season Storeage of Excalibur 380

I'm on my third recurve crossbow over the years now. My current bow has never had the string taken off for storage (7 years now). I just give the string a twist in the spring if it has stretched any. I haven't seen any change in it's function doing so. I have never had to resight or anything and the...

Re: How hot is too hot for you to hunt

It's almost never too hot to hunt in Ontario - deer opens on the 1st of October and some year I have been out in shirt sleeves but has never been too warm. This past year was hot. The third week of September I was up north hunting upland birds and it was hot and humid. Had to pack it in one morning ...

Re: How cold is cold for you?

When it hits -5C/23F I won't sit the stand for longer than 2 hours.

At -10C/14F I won't go in the woods if I will be sitting at all but that's still decent for walking for birds/bunnies.

Much colder than that I don't leave the house. I have turned into a whimp as I have gotten older :)

Re: R.E.D.S

I have run my older Excal with and without S5 (REDS) and Dissipation Bars (Air Brakes). The bow was loud without them and still loud with them - maybe measurably "quieter" by a DB or two but nothing that my ear can readily discern. But "quiet" is a personal thing. Some say the Su...

Re: 308 Short Review

Probably have gone to "draw length" instead of power stroke due to the inclusion of crossbows in the archery season in many more jurisdictions. The regulations for "minimum bow" are all worded differently. Some (Ontario as an example) talk about minimum "draw length" (1...

Re: How many days have you bow hunted for Deer this season?

This year I tagged out on my fifth time in the stand - 11th of October in our early bow. But since I "party hunt" and one of my buddies still has a tag we have been out another eight times since then and a couple days in the rifle season. I do keep journals and I tend to bow hunt (for deer...

Re: Legal shooting hours

In Ontario the legal hunting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise until 1/2 hour after sunset. But "ethical" hunting hours may not extend anywhere near either of those "legal" hours. I hunt very dense hardwoods and if it's overcast it is sometimes difficult to see right at sunrise o...

Re: Can't seem to pull the trigger.

I'm about in the same place as you right now. I don't "need" a new bow but after 8 years running my current one I "want" a new toy. I am actually looking the other way. I don't need the speed. My longest shooting lane is 35 yards and whatever I have in my hands - crossbow, recurv...

Re: Micro short

I tried to scale/measure based on the pic on the website (the birdseye view). It looks like (about) a 10 1/2" power stroke (from where the string is anchored to where a properly adjusted string would sit uncocked). (12 1/2" is the advertised "length of pull" which is from the tri...

Starter cord for a lawn mower.

A couple bucks at the hardware store and almost the right length without cutting.

Re: Past Excalibur Models

I shoot a Vixen II and don't have spare limbs for it and even though it's long discontinued I don't feel a need to grab up a pair. Just from my shooting logs I "know" that I have well over 25,000 shots through it - probably closer to 30,000 because I don't log all my range time (but most)....

Re: G5 Deadmeat Expandables performance?

I buy my arrows in dozen lots. I take each arrow and write a number, in pen, on the cock vane - 1 through 12. Then I shoot them all five times each at 25 yards (bow in a shooting vice) and chart exactly where they hit. The four of that group that consistently landed closest together (from the charte...

Re: Rage Crossbow X Broadheads

We only tested the mechanicals. From G5 we had the T3's and Tekan II's and the (new at the time) Havoc (which to me looks like the Tekan with minor updates). The T3's got the best overall penetration (simply measured how how far they penetrated a solid foam block), but as I noted, they got damaged i...

Re: Rage Crossbow X Broadheads

I'm a vendor and we do get many "returns" for Rage broadheads. BUT the biggest issue is user error. Most often they don't read the package or go check out the video on how to properly install the shock collars. Having said that, like Paul and a few others, Rage would be one of the last hea...
