Finally put the chrony on my 405
Took my 405 over to friends and set up the chrony for the 405: Using a 486 grain bolt and head combo (checked with a scale) the speed results were as follows: Shot 1: 352.6 Shot 2: 354.1 Shot 3: 353.6 Average of 353.3 fps At 486 grains that gives about 134.5 lb-ft of energy. I am happy with that as ...

Re: Excalibur Exomax
Congrats, the max is a fine bow. I have owned 2 (one duty, one standby) until the advent of the matrix. I sold one and gave the other to my son. It's gonna take a lot of years before my matrix knocks down as many deer as my max did. One piece of advice - The max has a really long power stroke and as...

Re: Apologies to Agingcrossbower
Not "Character Marks" - those are "Battle Scars". And you "didn't" slip down an incline, those ended up there when a Bear surprised you - couldn't get off a shot - had to beat the beast, that was easily the largest bear you will probably ever see, over the head repeate...

Apologies to Agingcrossbower
So I went out for the opening this morning and spent 3 hours in the blind and saw one doe about 100 yards off. Plans for the afternoon were to do a walk and stalk along the river bottom in my ghillie suit. Well those plans apparently included an epic wipeout on an inclined mossy log. Other than some...

Re: Advertised Speed?
After I tag out this year I'm going to check the speed on my 405. I am shooting 507 grain bolts and expect it to be somewhere in the 340-345 range. Geeez Joe, you're shooting Mack Trucks, not arrows! I am sure excal has done their research but I am of the opinion that 350 grains is too ligh...

Re: Daughter's 19th Birthday Present
I can't believe there was anything left to mount after that 17 hit it. :o :o When I took the shot I had no intention of mounting it as I thought the same as you. After I pulled the trigger and saw him flop over I went out to take a look and there was a pinhole entry and exit wound and almost no blo...

Re: Daughter's 19th Birthday Present
You are correct Scott - well technically it was the breakfast nook as my wife calls it. Since we eat there I figured dining room was close enough. I tried typing kitch-en and you are correct it came up as "spam."

Daughter's 19th Birthday Present
So my daughter is a massive Edgar Allan Poe fan. So for her birthday I just picked this up from the taxidermist: http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r719/Joe_Miedema/P1310045_zpsf1c8893c.jpg Being the redneck that I am I shot this guy from inside my dining room (do rednecks have dining rooms?) this ...
