Re: Freezer burn.
I bought a Foodsaver sealer two seasons ago. It wasn't an expensive one, but I'll never go back. I use the rolls or bagging material to make custom sizes for everything from sausage to roasts. I've never had a freezer burn issue. But then again, I never have any venison over 9 months old either. I e...

Equinox By Whom?
I saw this tag last week in a Bass Pro Shop near Myrtle Beach on an Excalibur Equinox.
At least it didn't say it was by Middleton.

Re: Deer Opener in 85 days
61 days for me on the other side of the mountain in Northern VA. It opens September 4 for four weeks of antlerless only before the full opener on October 2. Yesterday I broke out the vertical bow for a few (3) practice shots. Today I pulled it back out and lowered the draw weight down to 60#. Starti...

Re: foc question
Ditto. I've noticed that it is much harder to get a fixed blade broadhead to fly consistently at the lower FOC. The lower FOC still works great with mechanical heads. If you plan to shoot fixed blade heads or mixed types of heads, then the higher FOC (~13%+) works best.

Re: Help! Deer Hunting on a Budget
How do deer react to ground blinds? Can I hunt without one? Absolutely. Only two of the last dozen deer I have taken with archery gear have been from a stand. I've taken my last seven from the ground. I've never owned a ground blind till this season. I'm not sure how much I'll use it. There are a l...

Re: Buck on a board
Nice looking job! Is that skull from one of the kits commercially available? Sure is. Its from Mountain Mike's Reproductions. You can get if from Cabela's for $39.99. I'll never boil another one. Here is a link to their web page and Cabelas. http://masterofskulls.com/ http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...

Buck on a board
I finally got last years' buck mounted on a board. I decided to make a wall stand for the European mount and gave my best attempt at creating a broadhead. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/mayvillej/Hunting%202010/037.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/mayvillej/Hunting%202010/039.jpg G...

Flecthing colors and UV light
I picked up a little UV light (<$10 on eBay) based on a recommendation here on the forum to aid in recovering arrows. Wow, if your fletching is the right color and type then it will practically glow in the dark under a UV light. I will have fluorescent fletching and nocks from this point forward. He...

Re: Last Deer Season in Arkansas
Well,I can see by the harvest numbers that the crossbow hunters are going to wipe out your deer herd.......NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a ridiculous argument. Thank's for posting those numbers. sax, And awshucks forgot to mention that the archery season is full five months long; October through Febru...

Re: Just curious?
I bought an Exomax in 2006. I've taken 14 deer with it and love it. If I had it to do all over again today, I would consider the Equinox. Not because of the thumbhole stock, but because of the 1-inch shorter stock length and full camo rail. Neither were available in 2006 when I bought mine.

Re: HANG FROM THE HEAD NOT THE BACK LEG;S
I almost always gut them on the ground where they lay before I ever move them. Might as well shed 20% or more of the weight before dragging. Once home I always hang it head down from a gambrel. There is very little blood left by that point anyway. I also process them immediately. The only deer I've ...

The problem with new pups...
..is they don't stay pups. :) Seeing the other pups posted made me decide to share my latest addition. My old black lab mix, Beau, has reached a ripe age of 10 and is going strong. He has been a great dog so we decided to add another. My son decided on a yellow lab/golden retriever mix he named Zeus...

I saw a small road killed buck today that still had his headgear. It may still be a little early here.
