Re: my first robin hood............

I always like the look of a clean aluminum robin hood. My daughter did it with a pair of my carbon arrows a few years ago with my Exomax. I make a point to not aim at the same spot twice. After a preseason tuning in session I let her shoot it. She went robin hood with the second arrow. She said she ...

Re: BH's. Whats the most expensive?

The Rage Titanium is probably the most common I've seen. The Titanium is used for the ferrule. I can see a need for it on the Rage. I quit shooting the 3-blade model due to the lack of durability. After one shot the blades would nick the aluminum ferrule and potentially prevent the blades from deplo...

Re: Stopping Crossbow arrows

I have a Block 4x4 and it stops arrows fine out of my Exomax with 100 grain tips. If you use brass inserts or really heavy tips you may want to invest in an arrow puller. With brass inserts it will bury them to just before the fletching so you don't have much grab on to without chancing a vane misha...

Re: Cool new quiver adapter

Its definitely different. The only issue I see is that you would be limited to shooting with one hand or the other. If a deer approached from behind on your dominant side, you wouldn't be able to change hands because the arrows would be in the way of the scope. That being said, I've never shot one w...

Re: Range finder wanna bee

I have a camo Leupold RX-II and love it. Its good out to 400 yards (farther than I can shoot) and offers angle compensation for shots out of a tree stand. It has been replaced by a newer model number. For that reason you can get a good deal on them now on eBay even for a new one. You can find new on...

Re: Vertical bow vs. crossbow accuracy

Free handed at 30 yards, I can keep arrows from either of them in a 3" group. I can case both of them and pull them out six months later and repeat. The only difference is the vertical group may not be dead center. It will be just as tight a group, but maybe not center. A few extra arrows to di...

Re: Walnut Stock For My Exocet

That's some beautiful work. How long would it take a pump out about 250 copies? 8) I'd take one. I might have to pick up a chisel and play around with it.

I agree. I like hunting. But I don't visit the forum to hunt for posts about hunting.

Re: shockwave broadheads

I'm glad I read this post. I made a mistake in the post you read. I was not shooting a Shockwave on that hunt. It was actually a Sidewinder broadhead. I have used Shockwave heads, but not in the past five years. The ones I used worked fine. My only complaint was with the size of the chisel tip. Comp...

Re: Do crossbows shoot bolts or arrows?

It's just one more thing for folks to argue about that don't like crossbows. I have killed deer with GoldTip Series 22 carbon shafts fired out of my Exomax and my compound bow. The one fired out of my compound bow is longer (29" vs 20") and therefore heavier. The only difference in the com...

Re: Best 2" plus Mechanical Broadhead

It doesn't surprise me that the Strycknine performed well. During their free broadhead giveaway last year I tried the Trophy Ridge Hammerhead. Its a 100 grain 2" head. I actually like the longer tip of the Strycknine better, but its a 125 grain head. I shot a doe with the Hammerhead at 30 yards...

Hunting Licenses. How much is too much?

I live about a 22 rifle shot from the WV/VA state line. Since 2004 I have spent most of my time in the woods in Virginia. The license structure just nickle and dimes you to death. My fees go something like this: State Hunting ($86), Bear/Deer/Turkey ($66), Archery ($31), Crossbow ($31), Muzzleloader...

Re: Crossbows in WV? Call your legislators.

knobby, I feel your pain. They really make it difficult on non-residents. West Virginia is not alone in that department. Virginia isn't much better. I have to buy a hunting license ($86) then an additional license for deer/bear/turkey ($66) that is only good for modern guns. It costs additional if I...

Re: Crossbows in WV? Call your legislators.

I heard back from my Delegate today. It appears that the Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee is not really interested in bills relating to crossbow use. It will take quite a few voices to make crossbows a reality in WV. WV will be no different than the battle in many other states except that...

Re: Strong Deer (Deer that get away after a solid hit)

.OK, after a second look, the exit hole looked low, didn't it? The more I watch Travis's shot, the more I'm amazed that deer wasn't dead quicker. If you compare his entrance hole with the exit, I can't see how he missed the heart. The entrance was 5-6" up from the bottom of the chest and close...
