Grunt calls are great

Post by dairyfarmer »

I've not been on for sometime, but thought I might share my latest hunt. Bought a muzzle loader this fall and grunted an 8 pointer from about 400 yds away to within 50 yards for a nice clean 1 shot kill. Could'nt believe how he came to that grunt call (all open field). Got a huge 8 pointer during rifle season (200 lbs with big wide rack). None with the Vixen this fall, though I still have a tag left, but have all the venison I need for this year.A great year for hunting, can't wait until next fall. Hope everyone else is having success. The biggest thrill is still harvesting a deer with the crossbow though!

Jeez louise man. Even if I had 2 deer in the freezer, I'd still be out enjoying myself out there. But congradulations on the 2 bucks. :)

Hey Congrats,

Tending grunts or regular buck grunts? How many times did you grunt to bring him in?

It took me about 20 minutes to get his attention, wind was blowing and 50 turkeys were between us. During a real quite few seconds he finally heard me and started to run my way. I think I grunted 3 or 4 at a time, stopping when he was approx. 75 yds away. At 50 yds he turned broadside and I shot. I'm no expert on calling, but this buck didn't seem to care. I probably grunted 20 times after he started my way.

Grunt calls ARE great!! I grunted in four bucks this year, shooting the last one. :D .
You can take the man out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the man.
