Suggestion!

Post by Ben S. »

It would be nice if Bill would give one of us who is on this forum daily the ability to remove the spam (mainly spam) as soon as it appears. There seems to be more and more all the time. It gets tiresome seeing it all the time. What do you think?

I think that is a good suggestion.

I agree that somebody needs to ride shotgun. I am disgusted with the amount of spam spam since Christmas. I also did not realize that across the counter medications had any business on a crossbow site......but I'm
old fashioned.

Moderators are back and have cleaned it up Great job guys!

Ron, we as the forum members have to take some of the responsibility of what is happening. Some members linked a picture from a XXX site (I believe an innonent mistake) into a thread as a joke towards a member on this forum. I personally thought this was in bad taste, but that is my opinion and did not say anything because I did not want to impose my beliefs on others. Most people believe differently in what is acceptable and what isn't (where the line should be drawn).

Unfortantly since some members believed that it was nothing but innocent fun, and the pictures remained (ant still do at this time) on that thread, there is a constant link to these XXX sites. That link tells these sites and others where there is a site that has these pics on it. So with that, they come here and SPAM away. IT is now easier for them to spam sites than it is e-mail because of the new laws.

Unfortantly, all this happened when there was a major trade show for Excalibur and kept all the moderators very busy. We (as all forum members) should show a little patience and give some time to Excalibur in clearing this up. They run a quality company and offer this forum to all of us at no cost to us, and they will, I believe, clear all this up as soon as they can.

In my opinion, IN THE FUTURE, ALL OF US SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT NO ONE POSTS LINKS TO THESE SITES EITHER AS A JOKE OR JUST FOR FUN. It is a wonderful site that we all use, we need to help police it.

Just my thoughts.

Well said, Tom. I certainly did not mean to imply that Excalibur is not a class act because they certainly are. I have nothing but respect for Bill T. and his crew. I am disgusted with the SPAM and was just venting.

:?: Spamers have always hit this site once in a while , and sometimes more , ,If those photos were linked to spam sites , WERE did all the other bull sh#@ drugs and everything else come from. Dont think your idea holds water, WE do need more moderators to deal with this threat and all photos and copy's articals should be scand before posting. I know there are a few old PRUDES who dont think good fun belongs here, but thats to BAD ! why dont we just make this a crossbow church forum ?? Every thing on this forum can be seen on t.v. or in store magazines by any one , So yes get some more moderators , but dont try to make this a censord prudish site

A lot of these cretins register as members and post their crap. The posts are removed but their member listing remains. One person in particular registers with similar names but uses "MONGOLIA" as his location.

Some others post a website listing something but if you click on it it re-routes to spam.

A lot of these websites, when you check "properties" com back with a server that ends with "ru" I'm assuming Russian, could be wrong.

I've even removed my Email address from my profile.

Greywolf when you link to these sites they can track you. These are no way included in the link, so scanning them would not eliminate the tracking. That occurs from software on their end. From this tracking, they make mailing lists and then sell them to othre people, just like those FREE CONTESTS that you can enter everywhere. They want your name address and intrests which they make mailing lists and then your receiving junk mail by the truck load. This is how they make alot of their money.

Greywolf as in my statement above, I did not say anything about those pics because I was not going to inforce my opinion or beliefs on this forum. IF you do not believe why all of a suddon these spammers are here, then check with a good computer site or tech. and ask them how these sites gain their mailing lists or if they can track you through links.

But if these links to this harmless fun as you put it causes this much problem, then it is really not that harmless is it. Do you realize how much time and energy Excalibur is going to have to invest into this forum to remove all this garbage.

All I ment by my above statement was that if we (all forum members) see any other links to sites like that, that we say something about it, get it removed before problems start up again. It is not my place to say that you can't post your own pics from your own hosting site (no matter what the context is), that is up to Excalibur to set those rules.

Blame is not ment to be dished out with these comments, but only to help solve and to leave from past mistakes.

Don't know for sure, but I do know Excalibur is falling back on their job at moderating the forum lately as I have sent e-mails to them and straight to Bill and Peter. Nasty stuff is still here.

Reckon no one is on the job, HOLIDAYS I RECKON

EDITED AT : 2:33PM Ohio time....
Just got a e-mail on the matter, problem is under way of being fixed :D

:?: :?: :?: I agree Gary I have not been able to edit my own posts for a WHILE NOW and this haveing to log in over and over is a pain !!I have also sent E-MAILS off to them with no reply ??But I STILL THINK ONE OF US FOLKS WHO ARE ON HERE DAILY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET RID OF THIS CRAP THAT KEEPS POPING UP !. Being that it is trade show time again , I can see that 2 moderators is sure not enough to keep up with the spamers :(

I don't blame Excalibur for being hesitant about appointing more moderators.

If a moderator is appointed to get rid of the spam site information and the pharmaceuticals, that appointment may tend to slide into other areas of "objectionable" material.

Our hosts have made a decision, I think, to avoid censoring as much as is possible, and if any is to take place, they will do it.

The more we complain, the more headache we cause our hosts. I dislike the manure that sometimes gets posted, in fact one day I went to some bother to shuffle it onto the second page. That didn't work for long.

However, I think we just need to be patient and stop complaining. Don't even click on the manure type threads, let alone post a response.

Let's not forget our situation is that of GUESTS, getting a free ride. The driver can deal with complaints/headaches by either dealing with the cause of the complaints, or if that's not feasible, taking the bus off the road. Either way, the headaches stop. Let's not forget that.

I know on some other forums that I frequent, there are additional moderators with this ability.
