free firewood...almost.
I live in georgia and I burn wood. I have had a time finding wood to burn this year.I like the free stuff. Or at least reasonable. well I did some research and found out the national forrest service will issue a permit good for four cords a year for twenty bucks. thats here in Georgia. I went to the office in clarksvivle and they were as nice as could be. we recently had an ice storm and chatohoochee national forrest is loaded with downed trees. Thats one stippulation is that the tree must be dead and down. any way I paid for the permit with my first load...just another way of using OUR forrest to OUR own good.[/quote]Thats your tale and I'm sitting on mine.

Free Firewood
They have the same arrangement in the Allegheny National Forest in northwestern PA.
I can get over five cords of wood for $20,and since my place down there is a seasonal one, that will do me close to two winters.
Same deal as in your area, the trees must be dead or down, but they burn just fine for me!
