It depends how big is your passion and your purse
Here in Italy is the homeland of crossbow and we have a lot of historic tournaments and masters craftman that produce historic crossbows (really historic). The crossbows seen on your link are very very very economic and very little historic.
See this link to have an idea:

Hi mark,

Both new world arb and i are located in texas and have been in business for years. David Watson makes a great crossbow, infact before i started building i shot one of his that i modified for about a year.

It really depends on what you are looking for, i tend to build medieval that are made for target shooting and hunting - aka accuracy is the key. david makes a good crossbow that in my opinion needs a tad of modifiying for heads up competition.

I am not sure if david does medieval builds using horn and bone, ivory ect, but i do. Again it really depends on how much realism you want and how much you want to spend.

Keep in mind i can use horn, bone, ivory and exotic woods for custom builds to about 1500lbs draw if desired. All our parts and such are made in house - we do not source anything unless asked to do so. Typically a middle grade crossbow inlaid with wood and horn takes about 5 weeks to build (unless we have one you like on the shelf). A standard traget bow - no inlay and ready for target shooting takes about a week (we have many on the shelf) and cost about the same as any of the builders out there. Our advantage is that we build everything that goes into the bow here and can control weight, speed and power.

As far as true reproducion medieval builds - yeah we can do that and build replicas of bows that exsisted. Price go way up fast as your paying for an art and something that is all detail. We have built these in the past and can do so at any time. Again - passion vs purse and how far real you want to go.

Hope that helps :)

advise

Post by arrowhead1212 »

Hi mark,

I am also considering buying a crosbow from uc crossbows. However a friend of mine ordered a bow, and is still waiting. he has paid in full, but has not received anything up and till this point. the contact trough email is also not good. late responses, or no responses at all. So i am awaiting till my friend has received the bow in good order, before i buy an bow from them. I am not saying they are no good, but i am beeing cautious, afther all, it is quite a bit of money to sent over. If you want i can post an message if my friend received the bow.

Arrowhead, could you please IM me the name of your friend so we can look into the order. Im suprised to see late to no responce ect and while i can certainly understand the concern something like this can damage a business. Obviously it would be in our best interest to find out who it is, track the order and make it right.

Thanks

Hi Uccrossbows,

It is absolutely not my intention to put uccrossbows in a bad picture !!! In fact, i am thinking of purchasing a bow myself from you guy's because the bows on your site look verry good and are not expensive. However, this friend of mine is keeping me updated on the situation, because i want to see the workmanship for myself, and know that it is not an hoax, before ordering.
I am not going to name my friend by the full name, but his first name is jasper, i am sure you know whom im talking about. Again, this is what i have heard, and my opinion. I am not saying uccrossbows is a ripp-off, and i certainly would not like to do your business any damage. But i am putting my order on hold before i see the result at my friends.

No no, its cool, hey i would be wondering if i had a friend that had not gotten the bow yet. I was more curious who it was.

Afew things here. It was a total custom build from a bow that was used on the set of the 1986 to 1988 TV show the tales of william tell or "crossbow". It took some time to get the exact layout of the bow and copy the very limited pictures of the bow. Customs take time and while quoted times are done so with best intentions - custom work is custom work. We actually have this written on the site due to things having to be tested, made sure they work and redone if they are not going to work. We build bows to last, not to break.

Fun build, took some doing as well as most customs do. The irons and steel work on the bow was a nightmare. Actually would have qouted more for the bow had i been thinking right. You friend got a steal in tat bow heheehe

Sent him a email earlier tonight (before your im) explaining what was going on. Had a mishap about 3/4 weeks ago that put me out. Anyways your friend will be seeing his bow shortly. If i recall it is about 7 to 15 days shipping international.

Thanks for the kudos on the bows on the site. All were hand built, as all our bows are. Some better then others, all very accurate :)

Warm regards!!!
